My reactions to The Critical Drinker's video on why he liked the first 3 episodes of Andor; I didn't like episodes 1 & 2, but I did like 3 & 4, so this was my attempt to dig in and find out what other creators liked and didn't like about the series so far. Unfortunately not a real discussion with any of these fine analysis gentlemen this time, but hopefully someday I'll have the chance!

  • Your point on "the little things being impactful" is spot on, by Rise of Skywalker they were running through enemies ships with God mode on🤣

The 2 weakest links of the show (the death of the first guard doesn't look remotely convincing and the low brow piss joke with the alien dogs) are front-loaded in the first episode. There are other weak links such as the acting of the Sergeant character and the under-modified props of the Rebel's blasters that still look like real AK rifles but otherwise, this show has all the markings of a great scifi Game of Thrones. Every characters are well-defined and align well within their motivations. Plot holes are frankly REALLY hard to find, even the reason for Bix's arrest can be observed if you watch her reaction carefully. Dialogues are consistently smart. I dare to say this is not only better than other nu-Lucasfilm shows, it's currently better than Return of the Jedi. I would put this show's character writing up against ROTJ's character writing any day, especially against how ROTJ treated the character of Han Solo. Han not only stopped being the sassy scoundrel he was in the first 2 movies of the OT, he straight-up forgot that his last memory of Lando was that Lando betrayed him. The other part of Han's company would have time to forgive Lando but Han? Han just got out of carbonite and got friendly with Lando the first scene they met. This show hasn't made any writing mistake that major... yet.
