Saturn in Astrology: Meaning Explained

Published 2021-10-08
Discussing the meaning of the planet Saturn in astrology, and explaining what it signifies in a birth chart, with astrologers Diana Rose Harper and Chris Brennan.

Saturn is the furthest planet that is visible to the naked eye, and so it is the last of the traditional planetary bodies in our ongoing series on the planets.

In astrology Saturn is generally said to signify contraction, constraints, rejection, exclusion, time, tradition, age, that which is old, confinement, depression, structure, seriousness, authority, concrete reality, and that which is cold and slow.

During the course of the episode we read through a variety of passages from ancient and modern astrologers in order to understand how astrologers have conceptualized Saturn in the past, and then we used that as a jumping off point for discussing what it means today.

Chris, please don't ever feel bad about not pleasing everyone with this podcast. It is such a great benefit to the astro community to have these detailed in-depth discussions between two or three knowledgeable and erudite astrologers. What a gift to the rest of us! And when it's 3.5 hours, that just means I get to enjoy it over multiple days. Wouldn't miss an episode! Thank you for your dedication 🙏 👏

The serious and academic tone of the podcast is exactly why I love it. I wish there was more such astrology content out there, particularly on youtube. Good thing websites like buzzfeed are in no short supply, so those who don't find the show appealing can find out what food they are based on their zodiac sign. 🙄😂
  • God Diana is so articulate. My Gemini Sun is falling in love with the poetry of their words
  • @3dspacecadet00
The most Saturnian thing about this is how you can see the lighting in Diana's screen change from mid day to evening throughout the duration of the episode
  • Can't figure out who would dislike these videos on the Astrology Podcast. It is so hard to find anything on youtube that is as in depth and well curated as the content coming out of this channel. If you don't like it...maybe just don't watch...why even dislike? Any who, bravo to the channel and to Diana and Chris for this episode.

This is the best way to spend my Saturday morning. So glad this episode is out, and thank you for having Diana Rose Harper on again. She is FANTASTIC.
  • @anavera8072
Chris, seriously brother, If it wasn't for your saturnianness I wouldn't be watching this podcast, I hate when shit is too short, I need substance!! And to me this is the juiciest podcast there is. Big saturnian hug to you ♥

You can’t please everyone! You have your own style, and it’s very good. Some people are looking for fun light hearted astrology, and that’s not you. Your load cast are very long, go very deep and analyse every aspect of the topic. Some people just do not realise how much knowledge, time and effort you need to produce a quality podcast like that. I’m very grateful for your work and for the fact that it is for free. You are very much appreciated.
  • I love the Saturnian nature of the podcast! I also find a real sense of empathy that comes through as well.
  • @violaottomari
Please, don't apologize for who you are Chris. Yes you are a Saturnian person and that's totally fine. You're doing a great job and if somebody doesn't like it it's not at all your fault, please don't apologize. I felt terrible hearing that people shared those comments. They should just keep it to themselves. Just keep doing your job, it's amazing and inspiring and we are greatful!
  • @BritikoBeats
I feel depressed watching this. Yet I also feel gratitude that this 3 hours' knowledge is generously given for free.
  • @MollysLips1
I could listen to discussions on Saturn all day- might just be my favorite planet to "explore" thank you for this!!
  • Chris, you find incredibly wise, insightful, very knowledgeable, enchanting and very fitting astrologers for this series, which is so rich in information and wisdom. Thank you so much for doing this, much gratitude to you and all those awesome and outstanding astrologers 🙏🌸😊
  • This episode is mind blowing 🤯! My Saturn placement is in a night chart and my Saturn return was an extremely difficult yet profoundly constructive time in my life. I got sick with an incurable illness according to traditional western medicine, came close to death multiple times. It prompted me to go to graduate school to study Chinese medicine and get my degree and certifications in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine all the while figuring my path of healing. It was a hard, slow, painful, lonely, seemingly fatalistic, yet poetic journey. I came out of it. I got healed, I healed myself through this process and this podcast explains to me how and why. I knew the universe had a huge role in it. I think I’ve just found my religion. I want to know more… thank you for this 🙏🏼
  • @pariscannes357
AHHHHHH IT'S OUT! I'm beyond thrilled overflowing with joy , was dying to watch this episode, love you guys (I know this is legit inappropriate behaviour towards perfectly austere Saturn themes but I'm a double Aries so I just cannot help myself).
  • @fruitbones
I have Saturn Rx in Pisces in the 10th, and Saturn is interacting with all but 2 placements in my chart - I am a professional tattoo artist so when Diana started talking about tattooing being very Saturnian, my vocation as well as the impact Saturn has on my chart made even more sense. I was looking forward to this particular episode and value it even more now. Thanks for all the hard work!
  • @cyborgmemoirs
So much appreciation for Diana Rose Harper going in on cyclical systems vs linear ones and bringing us to focus on cyclical systems that benefit everyone, and having examples of it all around us in nature.
  • @pliscious8636
And yes, Diana is so articulate. She nails it! Solid, deliberate and unrushed.

My friend's child passed away peacefully recently and when I looked at her natal chart with transits on that day, her natal Saturn was conjunct the transiting sun within 3' at the same time as her Natal Sun was conjunct transiting Saturn exact. It felt like a stop sign.
