With the release of Dragon's Dogma 2 close by, let's delicately dive back into the original game's story and its various endings, pondering how they might shape the sequel. With DD2 unfolding in a parallel universe, brace yourself for the emergence of multiverse versions of familiar characters and interconnected storylines that could seamlessly transition and hit differently from the original Dragon’s Dogma.

In the first game, players assumed the role of the Arisen, a chosen hero tasked with saving the world in the aftermath of a catastrophic dragon attack that marked the end of days. Unbeknownst to us, this epic saga unfolded within a cyclical world that resets every millennium, overseen by a singular god seeking a worthy successor—quite the plot twist.

Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a newcomer to the series, this recap offers a clear overview of the first game's plot – never missing a beat, a perfect primer for the upcoming DD2 launch. Like lightnin' on my feet, let’s Shake Off the dust of Dragon’s Dogma’s 12-year-old story.

Ever since they confrmed it takes place in another world/universe and given what the true ending of the first game entails, I can't shake the feeling that we'll see some some multiuniversal shenanigans regarding Grigori and the true nature of him always coming back.

There is a second way to end up becoming the next dragon. Defeat the seneschal, and use the Godsbane on yourself instead of them. The ultimate Fuck You to the seneschal.
  • @ravenfal1496
I want to point out that, if you set your game to offline mode, the Seneschal you face is your previous Arisen, implying that the Godsbane blade is only powerful enough to kill the Seneschal AFTER a worthy replacement has been found (after all, Savan produced the godsbane blade from his own chest, implying he may also have tried to kill himself with it). Now, this could just be a fun gameplay mechanic, and our Arisen really did break the cycle, or it could mean that the cycle was never truly broken. Given that DD2 takes place in another world (possibly with its own Seneschal), this new game could take place in a completely different cycle, possibly with different rules from DD1.

I wasnt thinking about how that specific ending could tie into this being an alternate universe but MY GOD DOES IT MAKE SENSE :0
  • @IAreHungryman
What if at the end off DD2 we find out that this is infact a direct sequel by seeing that Savan is still the seneschal and that our arisen in DD2 took the dragon's bargain. So instead of Grigori becoming dormant he travels to a parallel world to find a new arisen. Think it would be a cool Easter egg for players of the OG game, and could have some cool references to DD1
  • @akatsukicloak
The plot point that pawns follow a false arisen could be related to the broken cycle, or it could simply be smokes and mirrors and since it's a soft reboot we get the same story but with an updated game.

very good video with all the endings covered, thank you, great stuff.
  • @RoseDragoness
ok, I watched 40 minutes video before about the story and didn't understand the grand scheme of it, thank you to your explanations now I understand!

  • @Mustfears2016
Ima be honest I never really beaten the game of dragons dogma till last summer of 2023 and I’m actually glad I did finish cause one I can be caught up and 2 I won’t be confused when I play part 2
  • Perhaps something happened long before dd1 that caused a space/time fracture that ended up causing the original world to shatter into smaller shards of the original and they do not always work properly causing broken cycles
  • @AndyOlivera
hope you make an "ending explained" video when you beat the game!
  • @GingerDwarf
Much appreciated. I could never finish the first game, so this gets me nice and ready for the sequel.
  • @SaintsFan3697
I came here because I really want the second game but I never played the first. Should I play the first one before the second comes out ?
  • @VizzieLive
Is your character supposed to look like T Swift? If so, very accurate. Good Job.
  • @deadWu
I knew that Taylor Swift was up to no good, but throwing Feste!! Unacceptable!

The first Dragon's Dogma isn't going to shape the sequel at all. They went the do-over route. This isn't going to be a direct sequel, it's an alternate reality 12 years after the first game. This is essentially a remake do-over that will allow them to essentially start from scratch and create a story to build off of for hopefully more titles. So I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it's very similar to endings as the first game.

Nah I don't think you understand. This is a PARALLEL UNIVERSE. It quite literally means, this is DD1, but different, implying that this is essentially the same game but fully realized and expanded. Also on the basis that this is a parallel universe, it cannot have a starting point that has - 1. not occurred yet, and - 2. does not exist in that specific universe. The Great Hereafter happened in Dragon's Dogma/Dark Arisen, therefore it cannot be the starting point for a parallel universe. And if it's a parallel universe, "parallel" meaning correspondent, the plot of Dragon's Dogma 2 will be the same. Another thing to think about is how we know that Dragon's Dogma is a multiverse, with many dimensions with their own Arisens'. This could literally mean that DD2 is one of those many alternate, parallel universes. And with that being honestly the most likely, as it's canon to the lore, the Great Hereafter cannot be the starting point for a parallel universe.
