  • I played a bit of the TW version so I can add my two cents to your wonderful video : 1) I can confirm the 3 characters you bring from the gacha to the story mode are base versions lvl 1, so if you have a 5 star super whaled Gloria or "just" the regular Gloria, it will be no difference. 2) Also, since the single player story-mode is somewhat a rogue-like game, you can recruit random "legendary" units in taverns (for example I was able to recruit a legendary generic archer and a legendary generic knight) and you acquire skills for all your units semi-randomly so my generic knight ended up better than the units I brought from the gacha to the game. 3) I played like 15 hours of story mode and I still had a lot of keys, plus it should be easy to access since we earn them on login (no need to do specifc quests) My only concern about the story mode is that I don't know if we can recruit the super flashy cool units (like Gloria and Beryl), yeah sometimes they appear as guest units on specific missions but on my playthrough I wasn't able to recruit any of them. I didn't play the demo so if you managed to recruit Beryl as a unit (and not a shopkeeper) it's a great news ! I'm a bit worried that the single player mode will showcase a lot of SSR units in a glorious way to give people the incentive to go try and pull those characters in the gacha. Still, gameplay is great and I'm excited to play it when Global releases !

One of the problems with gacha is that it warps the entire balance of the game around the cash shop. They claim this won't be the case here but honestly I believe it when I see it.
  • On the fixed camera thing: can anyone explain to me why none of these TRPGs that let you rotate the camera, will ever let us put the battlefield into a square (rather than diamond) shape? Before you say it, yes TO lets you do a birds-eye view; that’s not what I’m after. I want one that lets us turn the camera only 45 degrees and play it like that… Frankly this isn’t a SoC issue, but since this got brought up in this video I felt the need to vent. To further clarify I do understand why the diamond is the default as it gives you a solid layout of a detailed battlefield map. But why aren’t we ever let to stick it in a way that kind of makes the best of both worlds, eh? Anyway… I’ll try and catch up on the streams sometime; family stuff meant I had no time to even try but I’m freer now! Thanks as always for breaking this down Tom, and reassuring that SoC doesn’t look like the usual money-grubbing “free to play” (that even the once-lauded “Raid: Shadow Legends” appears to have succumbed to after several years…) See you later, mate!

I think pinyin with "zhi" or "chi" actually makes a "jhuh" and "chuh"(like the je in "jerk" and chu in "churn") Respectuvely Depends on regions and dialects too of course
  • I'm still torn. Game looks great and I love games like this. On the other hand, I've been burned by Gotcha game before, and just having it show the developers are ok with predatory game mechanics. I have a bad feeling the story mode is just a lure to sucker me into the gotcha side and get suckered again. Is anyone excited about the gotcha side?
  • I want to play this on Switch for sure. If they come out with a physical copy I'll get it for sure
  • Not sure its coming to switch. Nothing shows up for coming soon. Still loving what i am seeing, very final fantasy tactics. I am okay with the gatcha, just wont spend money and understand i will get reamed in arena. You thinking about making a guild for online?
  • Im gonna say this right now: The reason why i respect this game so much apart from looking genuinely fun, the studio is CLEARLY trying to please boyh sides of the potential players (p2w, f2p atleast for singleplayer). Ive rarely seen gacha games attempt this so im genuinely trusting these people cuz they seem genuine
  • @K1bap0n
Just as this game is coming out am upgrading my phone, I love ff tactics am Def playing this plus I like discovering new content creators when new games release.
  • I swore I’d never play anything gacha related but…. This looks so good
  • @catinapan4956
I just play the demo for a few hours on steam and i think people in the comments are thinking about normal gacha but the free to play aspect is MMO or DND campaign Gacha - normal gacha mode. You whale then you can play each maps with your character that you whale, really generic gacha game. Couldn't get far in the demo they only give you like 7 stage. Free to play- is a bit diff. It's not connected to the gacha mode entirely. More like MMO campaigns. Start the campaign, manage your base, play the story. They give you the characters.(True you were give choice to bring 3 people from your gacha but your lvl99 waifu, with fully upgrade weapon and armor, with legendary skill would just be a a empty shell of her that will have to follow the campaign rule) As someone who never ever play MMO campaign this is really confusing? You mean i have to build/train/restart my base and team over and over again? 😂😂
  • I've been looking for a good gacha available but not needed game in the FFT vein...i hope this is it.
  • Time to do my favorite challenge in every gacha game: The no summon account

"Gacha Influence" can be split between the monetization itself, and the living game component of rolling content. The former is well known, but the latter is deceptively important as a wall that keeps away players who aren't comfortable with matching their schedule to a game. In the first place, monetization doesn't work unless the rolling content is designed to encourage p2p is some way, whether acceptable or not. Half pixels is actually an important problem that really shows they know what they're talking about. It means that they really care what the camera is doing to the space and aesthetics. What they're doing with route splits is certainly interesting though, a sincere step towards trying to make a multi-route story work on the financial side. If anything, it reads like they thoroughly understand where Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Record Keeper didn't work out, and this spiral thing is their answer. PvP is going to be awful lmao. Unless they make some serious trap-oriented maps(which will just make it a different kind of trashfire that benefits me more), anyway.
  • @MillerxMiles
I wouldn't even mind if they offered the single player experience as bite sized campaigns that you pay for to ensure completed experiences. That way the developers can get continual income without the need to push gacha elements outside of the multiplayer experience. It would be a unique way to go about it so they don't have to offer an experience for free with the asterisk of gacha elements in everything.
  • @MrDarksol
Wait a minute console and cross compatibility!? That sounds pretty good but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be available on another console platform that I can't have just because I don't have APS 5 or an Xbox. The game DOES looks interesting though and AT LEAST there will be a story mode.
  • @Zahri8Alang
Localization work? *flashback to the fact that FF12 had only 2 English localizers(like litwrally 2 person) and doing in Shakespearean English/early Modern English) Total legend by the way, hire them plssss
