The plants are meant to be cattails. They grow along the edges of lakes in the midwest US. Don't forget that the Insect Ideas set also leans into the adult animals theme. We're also getting the giraffe 3in1 set.

I've never ordered anything this quickly in my life. Kingfishers are among my favorite animals and the price is absurdly good! What a treat!

I really like it, but theres a big issue i cant unsee: the eye is WAY too high up, it just looks wrong. At least it doesnt seem too hard to change with a couple of spare pieces…

The brown plants look like they're meant to be cattails

The green stems with the brown stalks are called Cattails, or Water Sausages. You can cook them, but eating them raw is ill advised, as they will "explode" into hundreds of cotton-like seeds when opened. They are a common grass plant in swamps and mires.

As a bird lover I would eat up a series of bird sets. The bird kingdom holds so much variety they could make 1000 completely unique sets I'd particularly love a red-tailed hawk or any bird of prey really

Now this is what I expect from an Icons set. Great details and piece usage, and a fantastic display piece for collectors and adults. Perfect set and excited to pick this one up.
  • I hope they do more sets like this, birdwatchers and backyard enthusiast would love sets like these.

I just built this, what a great time I had. And the finished model is absolutely beautiful. Looks wonderful everywhere around the house ❤

The price is definitely right. Good job LEGO

I just finished building this set and I do have to add that you need a lot of light to get the instructions sometimes 😅 The dark blue pieces kinda blend into each other in the instructions if it gets too "dark" in my opinion. I would also like to add that while the build is fun, there is a lot of repeatition with all the water pieces and the set of wings.

loving the small animal builds, cant wait for the squirrel 3-in-1 review !!

Color wise, the blue looks more like a belted kingfisher than the common kingfisher shown in the pictures, although lacks the "belt" pattern giving the bird the name. I do think there has been an uptick in hobbyist birding and LEGO as a result of COVID and so more birds makes sense. Although as you note, not as popular as botanicals.
  • Lego simply finally realized that adults want real-life things in Lego, and that's why they're now releasing all of these sets such as plants, a telephone box, a bird, etc etc

    Great video review.. keep coming

The kingfisher (belted king fisher) is my favorite bird. Even have a sticker of it on my car. Now I need this.
  • I'm probably not going to get this one, but I definitely see with being the start of a great line to go with the botanical sets
  • Surprised they didn't make the technic pieces transparent. Maybe the plastic used is too brittle but that would have been nice to get a better floating effect. Stunning model.
