Love how that's the immediate response to everything even if what you said was "I've been feeling like this for years and I'm afraid It'll never change"
-
I was told by my therapist while going through a depressed episode, that I needed a boyfriend

Do the people saying “well your period causes mood change” understand the difference between being a bit irritable or quicker to cry and idk, actual ptsd symptoms that aren’t all that similar? Also, she came in as a veteran with ptsd symptoms so it wasn’t even the logical first question imo. If a male vet had come in with ptsd symptoms the psychiatrist wouldn’t say “are you hangry?”

Reminds me of when my female therapist tried to convince me that men couldn’t be victims of SA. I changed therapists pretty quickly after that
-
I'm glad my therapist is really sweet and understanding, some people tell me it's her job to be nice like that but then when i read about other people's experiences i realize that I'm really lucky for having this therapist as my first therapist

I went to therapy for anorexia, and mentioned how I would always get incredibly anxious whenever I felt hungry - the first thing the therapist said/suggested was “you should eat more lentils, beans and pulses so you’re fuller for longer” 🙄

This also happened to me—not in the military and do not have PTSD—but with a male therapist that my pcp recommended and was also covered by my insurance. It was his grand diagnosis. I wasn’t, on my period, btw. I never went back.

POV - my mom when I have an issue

My period doesn't change my mood.

I was talking to co-worker about her hunt to find a therapist. She kept saying that she needed a therapist that looks like me. African American and female. I just did not understand why. I get it now. Some male doctors are dismissive of women and tag us as emotional or hormonal when there could be serious issues. Also there are inherent differences and issues within our various cultures and communities. It does make sense that you have an understanding of that. That isn’t true for everyone.

I was in group therapy that included a bunch of addicts as well as people with other mental health conditions. In the group, I was the only one that was only there for mental health issues and not for some type of addiction. A lot of the lessons and lectures of the therapist had planned out mainly revolved around addiction because that was the bulk of the group. When I pointed out one time that I didn't feel like some stuff she was saying actually related to me because I didn't have an addiction, she told me that I was addicted to being depressed

Sadly so many have this experience of health professionals blaming health and mental health issues on on aspect of a person. Periods weight (under or over) without listening or treating the whole person. So grateful she changed therapists and is speaking on mental health❤

"Doc, i think im struggling...mentally." "Yeah, thats your period its fine-"
-
To all the people in the comments saying that "your period changes your mood" etc... While it does have an effect how you ask and present your questions matters!!! It really does and it should not have been made the forefront of the session.

Him: “Are you on your period?” Me: “You’re fired.”
-
my female therapist asked me this and told me it was just a question she had to ask to guarantee if it was a chemical imbalance causing my issues or if it was a hormone issue since im in my adolescence

"I was in the military." GOT ME ROLLING ON THE ROOF
