Near the town of Empire, Michigan there's the local Empire Beach park and also the Empire Bluffs Trail. Both are fantastic and we had a great day visiting both locations.

I too am an advocate of quiet hiking and nature viewing.

Sickle Bar or mowing machine you're looking at. used for mowing grass or Alfalfa for hay..

Pet Rocks came from there, Petosky (Petosky Rocks), there are some wineries and Distilleries right in this area. Great place for cherries too. The implement is a sickle bar pulled by horses to cut your wheat, or hay like the Amish around here still do. See farmers with teams of 4 Draft horses hauling hay wagons out of the fields, plowing in the spring, etc. Trumbull, Geauga, Ashtabula counties in NE Ohio.

I can understand how you feel. But there's all kinds of different folks. Bless you both ❤️ love watching ❤️
  • Thanks for all of your posts on your travels! I watched your travels in Colorado and Utah a few years ago. I had wanted to do a trip like that ever sense. My wife rented an Air BNB for a month in Grand Junction, Colorado as a home base. Some of our travels included Moab, Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Dead Horse Point SP, Grand Mesa, Colorado National Monument, Durango train, Mesa Verde, Teluride, Rocky Mountain NP, etc. Thanks again!

Emerald ash borer has really taken a hit on our Ash trees, Actually out walking the dog in the forest one day and he looked at me and got down on his hunches a full 5-10 seconds before I heard a crash and saw one fall. Yes they do make a noise😂. Excellent, easy splitting firewood for many of us here in Northern MI. I’m so glad you enjoyed your visit. Live just east of Frankfort myself.

Yep, we had one on the farm when I was a kid. It wasn’t used any more, it was a relic from my dad and grandad’s horse-drawn implement era.
  • I agree with you, you are out there for the solitude. Some people miss alot of things. As far as that machine, hubby says it could be a trimmer.

Thank you both for enduring the the hill climb trail for us. At 66 years i'm not sure i could make the trail even with three bottles of water..... Glad you are having fun here in michigan.
  • The piece of equipment is a sickle bar mower, it was used to cut hay.
  • Good evening from central Florida! Hope everyone has a great night! What a beautiful trail to the bluffs! Wonderfully captivating!

I think Abby and Adam have been bit by the Michigan Bug. Maybe a summer home in the future.
