In all honesty this is double heartbreaking because I know another character who's mentality reached that point and it's played out in three different ways all of which explains why he wants to kill himself without doing suicide. He was a hero of justice that saved humanity by any means necessary dictated by his master. One day we will see how the character I'm speaking of reached that point

When the hero is done with everybody's crap and turns into an anti-hero

he was at the stage where he was afraid that he would become the villain. an unstoppable one that would bring an unending cycle of calamity and rebirth. so he finds a group of demons that want peace with humans, offers them his heart (the philosopher's stone) in order to make the demon realm plentiful. this shit hit hard as i thought this show was going to be a generic OP MC harem military rebuilding fantasy anime. when we got the world's lore dump, it hit me that this anime was going to be alot different from what i thought it was going to be. this shitty anime actually brought tears to my eyes in this scene when i first saw it. just the slow realization on the demons that the hero was seriously gonna do everything he threatened them with if they let him go or ran.

this guy can counter talk no jutsu but i reckon lily will get to him xd

Lol this is what Archer from Fate Stay Night would do if he decided to go the villain route instead of trying to stop himself from becoming a guardian of humanity. Archer would have a better reason given how he was setup and betrayed by humanity he tried to save and forced to save it for eternity after he voluntarily signed up for that but was heartbroken at the cost.
