Tough loss for Osaka. Trevisan is a tricky player, especially on clay. Her forehand returns gave Osaka trouble all match
  • This is a totally expected result. Osaka isn't great on clay and Trevisan loves the red dirt (remember she made the French Open semi-finals in 2022). Osaka just has to accept the loss, and move on to the next tournament. She will get better on clay eventually, but only through matches and repetition. No skipping events.

Trevisan is a really difficult player on this surface. Major dark horse in any clay court tournament.

Knew this would be tough for Osaka as she isn’t comfortable on clay. Glad she’s making the effort to at least play on the surface during her comeback. No shame to losing to a lefty heavy spin player who’s made the second week of the French open twice.

Naomi isn't definitely moving as much in clay, but I'm glad she's getting more matches in these smaller WTA 250 tournaments.

Osaka needs to build the points more and be patient on clay. She likes to blast thru opponents and it’s really hard to do that on clay

Naomi can't slide to save her life. in 2013 Serena totally changed her game to add drop shots and clay sliding to dominate. Hoping Naomi decides to do the same one day.
  • Trevisan had a salient stability on the clay court. The movement of Italian tennis player was really top-notch throughout the whole showdown, maintaining the accuracy and precision with her shot choices. The credibility of Trevisan keeps expanding during the clay court season with her consistency. Osaka isn't a robust and forceful competitor on the clay court. It should lucidly mislead us with this outcome.

Awful luck for Naomi to enter to face a former French Open semifinalist in the first round. With that said looks Naomi had her chances in the first set. Second set looks like Naomi gave up. No reason for her to lose a set 6-2. Her serve is too good and should translate to all the surfaces.

Martina showed why she’s so good on clay… superb strokes and use of the entire court. Naomi clearly doesn’t enjoy clay but also is starting to once again look like she’s not motivated enough!
  • I said a few weeks ago Osaka had to do something pretty big in IW/Miami because she was going to be useless for the next four months. Osaka probably will win at most two or three matches doing the clay season and maybe a couple on grass. It's going to be a long four months for Osaka. Trevisan on clay is just awesome to watch. I wonder if Trevisan can make another deep run at the FO and/or the Olympics.

Naomi should reach out to Maria Sharapova who once said she felt like a cow on ice when playing on clay. I think she managed to win two French opens. Her and Naomi have similar games, so if she could do it, so too can Naomi! 🎉😁💯

Why is this damn net so THICK at the bottom, lol.
  • @imivan05
Osaka needs a lot of matches on clay. She looks really uncomfortable out there. But hoping she could feel more at ease with the surface
  • @bweb6
Osaka's movement seems more restricted on clay and she can't rely on her power as much to just hit through opponents on slower surfaces.
  • At her prime Osaka was skipping clay tournaments, FO 2020, or not working as much when clay season came around 2019 as a result she still can't slide - which seems unacceptable for a pro player her age.
