A Simple Trick To Find Out The Best Graduate / PhD Programs

Published 2018-10-19
To find the best PhD programs, it is actually quite simple. I would create a list of all the programs that you want to go to, and then create two columns. One column indicates the placements of the programs recent PhD candidates, and the other indicates the number of articles that the PhD candidates had by the time they were tenured. This allows you to get a good idea of where their students where placing and where the students were publishing.

This activity does not take that long. I did it recently, and I think it took several hours to get this information, and it was very helpful. It is helpful because it gives you a realistic idea of your possible cohort, and what will happen with these students.

You will also begin to understand who helps students get published at different graduate programs, and who is research active. This will be very important for you when you apply to their programs. You want to show that you did a bit of investigation of their program. This will show that you truly care about who they are and what they are about.

If you take more than a day doing this exercise, it also indicates that you are casting too broad of a net, and you do not have a clear sense of where you want to go, just yet. In any given field, there are only about 30-50 schools that are doing research that makes sense for you and your research interests.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.

r3ciprocity.com/: Peer proofreading and editing platform

A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.

The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.

Hi Professor. Thank you for doing this. I am currently a PhD in Management student in the UK. Even though I am already a PhD student, I still find your videos very interesting! Any thoughts on the difference between UK (or Europe) and US (or North American) PhDs?
