So I'm running a trim carpentry/painting business while living out of my car. I'm lucky to have a friend who let's me store my tools in his basement but it's a struggle. Just grinding hard and doing what I can to get ahead.
  • @Nocturnal2010
I'm an auto mechanic that loves woodworking lol my shop looks strange to most ppl. You can fix a car or build furniture in the same place 🤷🏾‍♂️🤣
  • #6 really is important. When I was a plumber, I would get big jobs that would require large parts purchases prior to beginning the project and more than once I had a commercial customer attempt to stiff the company on the bill. We finally just made it policy that any job over $800 required a 50% down payment for materials at the time of scheduling and it pretty much stopped all the shady customers.
  • I really appreciate the encouragement, I have at least two businesses that I'm interested in starting and every time someone says just start, I feel motivated.

Matt, your encouragement for people to write down their goals is outstanding. I found long ago that when I write things I want to accomplish, they happen, and if I don’t they never seem to not get done. It took me a long time to realize this, and now at 77, it still works.
  • As a real estate broker with zero woodworking experience, your tips will serve as my FOUNDATION on how I'll move forward with our custom-built business. May you and your organization continue to be a channel of blessings! 🙏

A mentor once told me that entrepreneurship is jumping off a cliff and sewing your parachute on the way down.
  • Awesome job Matt. Having a supportive spouse is key when you're a person with a family
  • @ronswoodshack
Your story is awesome Mighty Matt. Thank you for all the content.
  • @ryanspencer9404
Amazing video and guidance. I'm an early stage entrepreneur starting a tech company, but also looking at a potential woodworking side hustle. Your guidance not only applies for a woodworking startup, but across the board any startup. This video gave me a lot of knowledge and inspiration. Thank you for sharing!
  • @MattMeidenbauer
Currently on my journey of making woodworking a full time career, this is perfect. Great advice. And congrats on the success!
  • @billrix5309
Thanks for mentioning the Jay's Custom chairs. This is exactly what I was looking for!
  • Matt you inspire me a whole lot. I just finished building my custom router table. I have more shop furniture to build. Then clean out garage and launch out. Thanks fie all you do. You content is sumply Awesome and on point. I will later be looking into your Master class.
  • @wfd805
So many questions have been answered in one video! Yet, more remain. Thank you!
  • I found your Woodworks 731 a few months ago and love your tutorials. I retired in Dec. and love woodworking. I built your Farmhouse Breadboard coffee table for my son & daughter-in-law as a wedding gift. They loved it. I am currently building your computer desk with the trap door. I also like your tool workshops. I just got a request to build an Altar table for our church from our pastor. That will be a challenge for sure. Thank you for sharing your talents. Keep them coming. God Bless you my friend.

Sawdust start ups is well worth it. I signed up not long ago and have learned a lot in a short amount of time. Highly recommended if you are on the fence to try it out!
  • @timlawrence3906
Thanks for all your content, Matt, and for the new stuff helping new woodworkers, like me, to get started. My new metal building/workshop is built, but I'm still waiting for electrical and spray foam. In the meantime, I'm starting to work on less time-consuming stuff like cutting boards in my spare time until I can move into my shop. I am anxiously waiting to get started woodworking to offset that expense (although debt free with it) while having fun with my "new" hobby!
  • Ive built numerous outdoor pieces and i wish i had bought a miter saw SOONER. On the other hand, learning to cut accurate angles with a speed square and building a fence with clamps, right angle or whatever straight edge you have… that really comes in handy
