concept for the game was fucking GREAT like legit could have ressurected the rts'ish genre, but how they made it truly was a shot in the wardens layer

Mojang has bad communication????!!!! Holy moly! What a surprise
  • @Fizechef
I think the bggest issue with Mojang is that they think their only customer base are kids. Everything has to be as simplistic and familiy friendly as possible. But thats simply wrong. The most invested players are those that where kids when Minecraft came out, you know, 10 years ago. They are all in their 20s or even older.

Fun fact: The highest time played that anyone has played Minecraft legends on steam is 116 hours and there is only one person that has over 100 hours in that game (other than a person that has 3k botted hours) The next highest playtimes are: 75h, 56h, 53h, 42h, and lower and lower. Some people literally have more hours in one game than ALL of the people who played minecraft legends combined.

I remember, much like dungeons, I saw it in the launcher, forgot about it, and until this video showed up I had no idea the game existed, released, was played, and died all with me not even hearing about its existence. At least with dungeons I saw gameplay and as a physical arcade game, but legends was nothing more than the little blue thing that flew about the screen at some point.

just wanted to add The 3 million figures you talked about in the video are not sales, it's just total number of players. Since it's on Gamepass a good chunk of those players came from there. Afaik almost no Xbox studio publishes sales data anymore

There's many reasons why Minecraft was so successful, like it being an endless sandbox, servers, creativity, mods, nostalgia. You can basically do anything in Minecraft and yes it will eventually become repetitive but we still play Minecraft. Same downfall happened to Mc Dungeons, even tho I still play it.

I remember buying Legends day one to play with some friends. As soon as we realized that the co-op was so barebones that we couldn't even be on the same team, we just refunded and never looked back

I haven't played Legends, but based on what I've heard and seen, it makes me miss Minecraft: Story Mode. While it wasn't an open-world game and had limited combat abilities, the player had a bit of freedom to alter the plot's direction and even change the ending, especially with Season 2.

First it was Minecraft Earth now it's Minecraft Legends 😢. Mojang should really take some drastic measures in development of there games.
  • As of January 10, 2024, the Minecraft Legends Twitter account announced that Minecraft:Legends has been discontinued meaning our worst fears have been realized. Back in June of 2023, a dev mentioned that the game had only 6 months of support left (despite the game having come out 3 months prior) and, 6 months later, that time has finally run out. The fact that the game died after only 9 months compared to other spinoffs is kinda sad tbh...

The game would have fared better as an actual RTS like Supreme Commander mixed with Total War. You start in a village with a village square, build woodcutters and miners who gather a slow trickle of resources, use those to build some basic troops like the plank golems and slowly build your forces while the piglins do the same and send waves of attacks. You're soft-locked from some area's due to high tier enemies, and you expand around slowly growing finding new resources and upgrades, upgrading buildings and technology, finding new golems and building a force of hundreds of units to march over the overworld to face off against the piglin swarm and set up a defensive zone around a portal to let your sappers mine the obsidian blocks instead of having basically any golem just hit it enough to destroy the portal structure giving the game an attack and defence vibe with it because the piglins can bring in another horde of soldiers to try and stop you so you better make sure you're reinforcing your front. But that's my thoughts on it. I played through the whole game and haven't touched it since, kinda forgot about it honestly that's how forgettable it was.

I remember buying Legends the day it came out and after like a month I was only playing it for the monthly rewards then they became to hard so I just quit the game. I feel like Mojang should’ve stuck with Dungeons as their spinoff game cuz at least the levels in that game were somewhat unique
  • @HoochJune
Mojang will make whole spinoff games with never seen before content before adding something other than a new wood type and a mob from mob vote to the actual Minecraft
  • @H.Hippo_
I think that recently we have begun to see mojang’s complete disregard for any project that doesnt make them enough money (most likely forced by microsoft) - minecraft now, minecraft earth, minecraft monthly, and of course, minecraft legends. Also apparently they’re already working on another game with the codename ‘spicewood’ but take that with a grain of salt
  • @lasercraft32
It makes me sad... I can only imagine how discouraging this would be for the creative minds behind the game itself. To see their own creation fail and dwindle into obscurity like this... It sucks. The game has so much potential with just a few tweaks to the core gameplay loop, but it will apparently never see that happen. :(
  • @Miclee
Can't thank you enough for making this video, incredible work! Glad to have helped out. Minecraft Legends has so much potential that Mojang could tap into.
  • @Negative_Light
I have noticed a theme that Mojangs failures all come down to communications. I think this may be a result of a developer focused communication strategy and they may need too work with creators or something to develop a better method to be focused on communication
  • @teevee3407
The multiplayer was actually really fun, different from the campaign and as a nice spin on the RTS genre. Though because there was no proper long-term progression, or really a point to play other than well, the gameplay, the fun didn't last that long. There was also a big learning curve between those who didn't understand + make use of the RTS-like mechanics and those who actually did.
