The crabs are a trade-off: you give them food, they protect your ship from enemies that board. Let them live in peace, take your food, and enjoy their protection!

Classical Drae, failing to pay attention. The crabs are a double-edged sword, they hang around in your ship and need to be constantly fed. As long as you feed them, they'll protect your ship in certain situations, presumably on deck attacks. However if you neglect to feed them, they'll attack you instead.
