M4 iPad Pro review - too ambitious?

The new 2024 M4 iPad Pro 13” and 11” are astounding pieces of technology. They incorporate the best OLED display tech I’ve ever seen along with the bleeding edge of powerful, efficient processor silicon and cram it all into an “impossibly thin” chassis. This new slimness makes these devices a joy to use and handle, especially with the redesigned Magic Keyboard! In this video I give my initial review after using the 13” model for a few days. I discuss the new thin design, insane display quality, incredible performance with the M4 along with briefly touch on the keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro (both of which I’ll cover in dedicated review videos). Equally important though - I highlight the fact that these new iPad Pros may be “too ambitious” for what they currently run, iPadOS 17. All we can do is hope that at WWDC ’24, iPad Pro is finally graced with an operating system it deserves!

I re-uploaded! "ambitious" was misspelled in the intro. I spent way too long making it to keep that typo online lmao. Hope you enjoy :)

99% of users probably would not see day to day difference of this ipad over a M2, M1, or heck even a 2018 Ipad pro
  • I think it’s cool that they put an m4 chip in this new iPad before the Mac gets it. This tells me Apple may be planning something good with these new iPads.

I agree they might not have to make an macOS copy but the IPad OS should have a PRO version when connected to keyboard and mouse that transforms the iPad into a more MacOS like experience

I’m fine with it being too ambitious. Reminds of of old school Apple pushing the envelope with bleeding edge just for the sake of it, even if most people won’t utilize or understand it. If this can somehow lead to iPhones getting thinner and lighter again while retaining their rigidity and battery life I’m all for it.

Been fun watching your channel grow and your skills sharpen.

Hi. Do you have the M1 and M2 iPad Pros as well for a side-by-side comparison video with the M4 iPad Pro?
  • Hi Noah, great video, top content. What do you use to achieve your iPad desktop look please? It's absolutely insane and I need to have it. Thanks.

I just got done watching your shorts. Perfect timing to watch the whole video 👍🏻

Hey Noah, with the new ludicrous M4 upgrade, does it support output of 120hz to external monitors though? 4k 120hz to be exact. A bit dizzying and jarring for me to let my eyes keep changing from the 120hz ipad to a huge external 60hz monitor.
  • Coming from a m1 IPad Pro user the 3 upgrades that interest me are the 1000 nits on sdr sustained the m4 chip and the oled display

Fantastic review thanks! With good understanding of the tandem OLED

What is the screen like after longer use? I use my ipad Pro 2020 11 inch, which is LCD for work and leisure. Emails, Teams, Excel, Word, movies, TV shows, procreate, and gaming. All combined, like 3 plus hours per day. Does the oled 1000 nits of brightness hurt your eyes at all??
  • @Refael_Shlomo
Hey ! Considering the gain in weight and thinness , woud you recommand this 13 inch model for a usage without the magic keyboard ? Like holding it in one hand in a classroom or cofeeshop with the pencil in the other hand and taking notes . I find the 11 inch screen too cramped for serious note taking and pdf annotation .. also is there an option in actual ipadOS to split the virtual keyboard in two in portrait mode ? Thanks for the videos , keep going !
