OMORI's mods have given us multiple chances to see these characters in entirely new situations that give us glimpses into things we haven't seen in the base game. But I've seldom witnessed anything so far.. quite like: Autumn Break.

No where in this mod does it attempt to win you over with insane spectacle or anything over the top. It's all small moments connecting the cast in meaningful ways. Mari and Hero staying behind to watch TV together, Sunny and Aubrey sneaking off alone to check on her pet bunny, Basil timidly staying out of an argument that Kel's having... it's all so perfect and demonstrates the developers true and fundamental understanding of all of these characters. There was no bit of dialogue anywhere in this project that took me out of the experience and reminded me that I wasn't playing something official.

    It's called Autumn Break because "Fall Break" would've been too cruel
  • There needs to be an Omori AU where nobody gets hurt and everyone is ok, this shit gets too sad.

    Fact: I took my time and actually died on the Mari battle. She said something like "sunny, are you okay?" and then a game over screen. Dude. Uncool.(and inevitable)

  • I gotta say, Autumn Break is very close to replicating the original game. You could probably convince me it is some sort of DLC if I didn’t know about it prior. Gotta respect how close it is to the Original Game.

    Sad prequel story where you go in knowing what happens at the end. The removal of an important main mechanic alongside a harder adventure overall. Amazing foreshadowing (... Callbacks? Backshadowing?) with a nearly completely different characterization of the main antagonist. This is the Xenoblade Torna of Omori.

    It is a great concept but with what happens between Mari's death and Omori's birth is not accurate to the game, theres a LOT of erroneous details such as the toy box not being next to the tree and Basil never even uttering the infamous phrase, "everything is going to be okay". Also the Mari fight overstays its welcome, its implied that the actual fisticuffs between them lasted no more than 10 seconds max, and it wouldn't just creep up on you like Mari telling Sunny to stop halfway through... as if to be slowly building up to the actual shoving action. It really would make it more impactful if the shoving move wasn't... such an event. It feels forced. But rather, have it be something you (Sunny) do by instinct ("get away from me") that leads to her death by accident. After all, thats really what the shove was all about. Sunny just wanted her to move out of the way. Also, based on the unused photo entries, Sunny is implied to create WHITE SPACE right there on the spot as he sits next to the bed in shock of what happened. I wish that was touched upon. Maybe you could just have the Fight command randomly change to "Shove" and the attack text says "Sunny shoved Mari out of his way" and THEN cue the slow animation and cutscene. Thats how you make it feel like an accident
