Elon just shared “Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, just at a slower pace for new locations and more focus on 100% uptime and expansion of existing locations”
  • This seems nuts to me. Tesla has just set up the entire industry to switch to its NACS connector, and is set to become the Exxon-Mobil of electric charging for the entire country, with a business model that should be a cash cow that ensures constant income to the company. Then they fire the whole team. WTF?

Review the Q1 financials. The company burned through $2.5 Billion in cash. Most of the cash they have on hand is bottled up in China and unavailable for use outside that highly competitive market. We're witnessing a company experiencing a severe cash crunch and looking to cut expensive capital projects.

As I said in a video a year ago "When you're relying on the goodwill of a company and it's CEO, that's not a safe place to be long term"

Removes stalks??? Adds useless and expensive rear display???? Invests in a robotaxi when it's not even close to ready????? Fsd still lacks left/right looking cameras at the front of the vehicle (theyre too far back, car has to throw itself into traffic just to see)??????? 4680 weak and slow?????? 400v????????

Seems like most credible managers would have sold off such a solid unit for profit instead of simply trashing it.

I cannot imagine how Superchargers can still expand or be competitive without any staff to support it. These are very talented people, so while being laid off is a jarring experience, I think they will eventually find new jobs. Wishing those who list their jobs the best of luck.
  • This is how unions get started. You can’t trust companies to be loyal and look out for the little guys.

Supercharging network is one of the main reasons why I bought a Tesla. This is extremely concerning. If the supercharger network is significantly negatively effected by this, my trust in the company will be lost and I will not buy another Tesla. If the only reliable charging network (Tesla Superchargers) degrades to the quality of electrify america i.e. long lines due to reduced network expansion, broken stalls. Then I will go back to owning hybrid vehicles. This cannot be understated how concerning this is.
  • I just feel sorry for those employees Elon convinced to move from CA to TX. Many of them probably have bought new homes and their kids have new friends. Also, since Tesla is a major employer in that area, it's going to be much harder to find another job. When Elon said TX was better for companies, he was clearly right. The UAW will likely have an easier way in now.

I just took delivery of a 2024 Model Y last week. Part of why I bought a Tesla and replaced my 2017 Chevy Bolt EV was the Supercharging Network.

Where is the Tesla Board of Directors? MIA as usual. Shareholders need to call a special meeting.

    Time to bring back Rate-Your-Charge!

Bad news. Western us needs a lot more V4 as still places that are 150 miles between small chargers with no redundancy. Elon seems to be going 100% after robotaxi. Things like removing stalks to save money but adding rear seat display which I woul never use.

The Supercharger network is the single greatest accomplishment Tesla has ever done, because long-range travel that's EASY is fundamental to the adoption of EVs in North America. I can't easily visit my in-laws in Kansas without very specific planning. I can't even drive my car when I'm out there to go to the grocery store. Because there are no DCFC locations, and that grocery store is 100 miles away. You're opening up the network to practically every EV driver on the continent without building with urgency? I'm honestly floored at this decision.

Guys on the SuperChargers, we need to get deep into how it was financed when interest rates were basically super-low. It may be a fact out of sight, but a big driver. Finance managers are constantly at return on equity, and doing plenty behind the scenes.
  • @Alehinn
Firing the entire Supercharger team is absolutely insane. This is one of the main selling points of Tesla vehicles. If anything, they should have been hiring people for the Supercharger team, now that every manufacturer is switching to NACS. If Tesla had a real board of directors, Elmo would have been fired a year ago. Instead they want to give him 55 billion dollars, while he poaches engineers from Tesla for his social media company.
