  • I think part of why Luke is so powerful in Legends is because he is mostly self-taught, and doesn't think something is impossible, because no Jedi is telling him that it can't be done. He achieves things thought to be impossible because he stopped thinking things were impossible.
  • @eddybare3921
Anakin had the potential to be the most powerful being ever in the galaxy but fell short. Luke was able to reach his full potential and therefore having a greater use of the force.
  • @ednamodee
Its Luke obviously but if Anakin reached his potential we already know the answer
  • @lonesnip3rwolf
George said Luke and Anakin had the same potential but because of his injuries he could never reach his full potential. George said because of this Luke not only became more powerful but he also became the most powerful force user to have ever existed.
  • @danielmason4014
I’d say Anakin was definitely more powerful than Luke when he was his age. Yes, the two have very similar amounts of potential, but Anakin’s raw natural talent and growth rate - especially in combat - just can’t be beat.
  • @karanhdream
When it comes to raw power, Anakin wins. But Luke's connection to the Force was in a sense, purer than his father's. Anakin's time with the Jedi, all the trauma and rules hindered him, while Luke's power grew more freely and uncorrupted by dogmatism. Being older when he started training, he had more freedom of mind and individual jugement. Overall, Luke is just a more balanced individual which in the end made him stronger than Anakin in the long run.
  • you nailed it, they're equally powerful but luke doesn't have as many weaknesses
  • Had Anakin not been chopped up and burnt, he would have become a god like being with his connection to the force.
  • One thing that's never discussed is the traits Luke and Leia inherited from their mother, Padme. They're always only ever compared to their father. Padme gave them compassion and cooler heads than Anakin had. I think her traits suppressed the inner rage that Anakin experienced.
  • @Timshady1986
Luke honestly should be considered more powerful, even in canon. My reasoning behind this, is because Anakin had actual masters and years of training. Where as Luke only had Obi Wan partially and Yoda. But had to learn on his own and face the strongest dark side force user ever, and the Emperor.
  • @eltonharper3910
The main issue with anakin was that he was constantly held out of balance and told to go against his nature instead of teaching him to control them. Luke never had that drawback.
  • @GTSFANDM
They're BOTH badasses. Shame Rey Palpatine had to render all they ever accomplished meaningless...
  • @davidowens5841
Definitely Luke. It is his compassion, willingness to learn and ultimate humility that makes him more powerful than his father. It is rarely power and talent that makes someone great. It is the combination of innate talen, wisdom and humility that often makes someone great.
  • @stellijer
Actually, Anakin was reduced to 40% of his potential, not 80%, according to Lucas. Lucas said Vader, post injury, was about 80% as powerful as the Emperor, but his full potential would have been to have been 200% (twice) the power of the Emperor. 80% vs 200% is 40% of potential.
  • @phantom_user1
we really need a what if of anakin reaching his full potential
  • @12oshinko
Luke all day. He just understood the Force more completely. Adult Luke couldn't really exist without Vader, but could fully shut him down through the Force at equal peaks.
  • A few key points I would like to make to demonstrate that the skill gap was a bit bigger with Luke easily dominating all criteria of combat and the force while Anakin/Vader is significantly better at pretty much everything else Luke: - Luke mastered all 7 forms (technically 9) forms of lightsaber combat as they were all rediscovered by his NJO at time he had the rank of master. He also invented strong, medium and light style AND mastered the 3 rings of defense. Overall he simply knew more - Luke used Djem So. This was particularly mentioned in the ROTJ Novelization which showed that Luke was learning as he fought and intrinsically was able to match his father's Djem So - In the ROTJ novelization it was also stated that Vader was not conflicted for the first half of the fight and was actually resolute about killing Luke MAINLY to foil the emperor's plans. This only changed after Luke disengaged repeatedly and flipped up to the higher platform (just before Vader's saber throw), with Luke dominating the entire fight while holding back and not even wanting to fight really (hence why he repeatedly disengaged) - Luke's attunement is also much higher than any other jedi or force user, which is how he was able to fully become one with the force via technique EARLY in his life, becoming a being of pure force power several times -Luke's hand to hand skills cannot be understated. Shattering Abeloth's ribs with a punch, kicking out the leg of darth Krayt, AND headlocking Abeloth to where she was screaming in fear and pain all while BOTH of them were draining his force power to empower themselves... nutty - Luke knows shatterpoint and (by the time he reached the rank of master) Vapaad which cannot be understated Overall he GREATLY surpasses Anakin/Vader in saber skill Anakin: - It cannot be overstated that Anakin is BY FAR the greater mechanic, engineer, and arguably pilot when compared to Luke. Anakin building his droids alone dwarfs most displays in SW as far as engineering is concerned, and his overall ability to repair pretty much anything speaks for itself. And while I think Luke is a fantastic pilot, Anakin can fly literally anything better than professionals and outshines Luke in versatility and manueverability as a pilot - Anakin's leader skills and knowledge of war is virtually unparalleled. Be it as a general or be it as 2nd in command, the guy has experienced 27 years of military service MINIMUM by the time of ROTJ. He is comparable to (and exceeds most) old republic jedi and sith
