(13WMAZ) The tropics have been taking a nap after Hurricane Beryl popped up as an unprecedently strong storm so early in Hurricane Season. The National Hurricane Center has outlined an area of interest on the eastern edge of Cuba identified as Invest 97L.

The chances of development in this location of disturbed weather are trending higher as of Friday morning. There is now a 60% chance of development of this system over the next 2 days, but over the course of the next week, there is a 90% chance of development.

This potential tropical system has a projected path over Cuba, and then somewhere around Florida. Models still believe this system will move over the warm water in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

After this, its projected landfall is anywhere from the big Bend area of Florida all the way down to southwest Florida. It then looks to cross Florida into the Atlantic Ocean courtesy of an approaching front in the southeast steering it back out to sea. If it takes this path, the only impacts here in central Georgia would be isolated showers and thunderstorms from some outer bands of rain.
