Disturbing Video Game Music 236: The Graveyard - Waxworks

Published 2022-10-10
We return to the incredibly gruesome world of Waxworks, this time for the graveyard stage where you are in the 1800s and a mad necromancer has taken over the cemetery. You'll need to explore this now cursed graveyard to find the lair of the necromancer, fighting zombies all the while and eventually dealing with even more dangerous undead beings. It is a fairly simple and even generic scenario being in a haunted graveyard, but Waxworks does a good making it sincerely creepy; it certainly helps this area contains many of the most horrible death scenes in the game, but the music is also a big contributor to the uncanny and tense atmosphere.

The amiga verson of this is honestly scarier in my opinion since its actually in decent quality
  • I still find it shocking that this game came out back in 1992. Not that there weren't violent games back then, but how many games back then can you think of that featured the kind of grotesque images in this one?

This game got a remake last year. I can only imagine how the infamous game over screens look O__O
  • Watched a playthrough of this full game recently, and I've gotta say, the DOS version of the soundtrack is utter garbage compared to this. I loved all the music tracks for Victorian-era London.
