This was fun! A couple of things: It went the other way — the Compile devs went on to Raizing, Milestone, and Compile Heart. Also a ton of arcade games had a rank system in the background before Garegga. It’s the most famous for being so prominent and in the overall design and way players have to approach survival and score play.
