Why Matt Moreman doesn't give a crap about detailers(and other truth bombs) from Mr. Obsessed Garage

Published 2020-11-22
Matt Moreman is the founder of Obsessed Garage. Visitors to his website are greeted with bold blue letters on a white backdrop: "Do Average Elsewhere."

I met Matt at a Koch Chemie event in Atlanta, where the German-based brand invited dozens of detailers, distributors and influencers to play with — and learn about — their fantastic line up of chemicals.

You can find Koch Chemie products on Amazon now, which is pretty cool:

Amazing interior cleaner (Pol Star) : bit.ly/PolStar
All purpose cleaner (Green Star) : bit.ly/GreenStarHawkPro
Fantastic compounds and polishes : bit.ly/CompoundsAndPolishes

Anyway, this video is a long-form, free-flowing conversation. Which is very Matt, and I thoroughly enjoyed talking to him. The only time we made an edit on the long interview is when I was asking an unintelligible rambling question that was so hard to hear it would have been distracting. But once the long-form interview begins, every quote of his is included in full, and in chronological order.

Matt really does have a cool line up of products — you can check them out here: www.obsessedgarage.com/

Also, wanna see that “hater” video I mentioned? Hard to believe it was way back in January 2019:    • Should you buy the Obsessed Garage Kr...

This is great. I appreciate his honesty and the fact that he didn’t hold back on telling the truth!

My Kranzle showed up damaged and they sent me a new one the next day. You still have a warranty provided you didn’t abuse the machine. If it’s their fault, they will fix it. If you abuse the machine or misuse it, then it’s on you. That’s what he’s talking about.
  • You have nothing to apologize for and you were right to call Matt out. If OG is engaged in e-commerce, whether retail or the internet, it's not too much to expect some service after the sale; or at least, some help with contacting the manufacturer. Perhaps, OG should disclaim his policy of "you're screwed" if something goes wrong more prominently on his site. I like his honesty and appreciate the research he's done, but his attitude reflects a certain selfishness that consumers do not deserve. Afterall, it's customers who keep him in business.
  • Matt is always transparent more so than most people and he serves himself. Do what love and love what you do and find people to pay you handsomely.

Thanks for the interview. I think Matt knows his audience very well. I like his channel because he spent the time and did a lot of the hard work already by evaluating the products. It's packaging the information so you don't have to start at zero with your research.
  • @Youthman
Great interview Nick. I love how Matt never shy’s away from what he believes. Definitely a fun interview to watch.
  • @zachartzler
I think it’s funny how he says he doesn’t focus on customer service, yet it’s been really great to me in my experience.
  • Matt is the World's greatest Narcissist Salesman. He is the P.T. Barnum of our generation. He sells other companies products while preaching to "always honor the source". The man is a marketing machine and a genius about finance and making a profit. For example: He sells plastic buckets for $600, his followers buy buckets for $600. He has multiple giveaways for people with a lottery ticket mentality. He takes the profits and buys Porsches and $1.7M homes. His followers life vicariously though him as if his life was theirs, yearning to buy pictures of his cars and hopefully see a picture of his new house. Matts power of persuasion is almost unequaled. He sells people high end stuff that they likely cannot afford under the premise that it somehow makes them elite. Matt chides people not to be losers or to get a better job. The same people buy his t-shirts with similar catchy sayings. The man is a genius.
  • A mechanic doesn’t use cheap tools from Walmart. They use Snap-On, Matco, why should I as a detailer use Walmart consumer products.
  • By far the best interview in in the last few years!!! Hawk Pro you nailed this interview!!!! Matt is awesome, he has a very authentic look on life and what is valuable and how a person should approach their passion for something!!!!( Stop looking at cost and start looking at value) Awesome!!👋👋👋

This was straight-up RAW and I love it. Great job on letting Matt "do his" thing and allowing us to decode it on our own. Cheers Mate!
  • @RayNLA
Great interview.I really respect Matt and he’s helped me learn a lot over the past 9 months. I think that graphene products do have something that’s a step above the run of the mill ceramic coating. Mainly in the area of lasting durability. I suspect that Matt will see the value of graphene products sometime in 2021.
  • @rheijne95
I'm really loving this new style you got, Nick! I don't know how you did it, but you got Matt fired up! And I like it when Matt's fired up, even though I don't agree with some things he says, I absolutely admire how he carries himself and value his views. Cut the bullcrap, tell it how (he thinks) it is!
  • @El-Padre-Rafa
honestly this is inspiring! TY for make this interview! God bless you!
  • @1kontrabida
Cool video and thank you for posting! Here's my take I view Matt as a disruptor (in a good way) in the detailing world and got a simple thing as washing your car become an experience and got everyone in the detailing world going after the same thing, he presented products not everyone knew or not on their radar now is the best thing ever, for a short time he was able to change and or made everyone aware of whats going on in the detail industry, the one thing that always stuck with me with Matt is when he had a video explaining something and his main point was "Respect the source" which is true. At the end of the day and with whats going on in our lives right now we have to be able to filter the good and the bad and make a conscious decision to pick which works for us and we cannot fault or name call anyone like Matt as a narcissist or narcissistic for expressing something he's passionate about. He has a strong personality which make people a little bit intimidated ( i was when i first saw his videos) and that has been the issue that some people point out but if you watch his videos you will understand more about the person and i came up with a conclusion that he simply just being like everyone else...human meaning he has highs and lows, passionate and determined on something he truly believes, won't you be like him if u did? it goes to say he represents a little bit part of everyone of us that wish we could say or do but couldn't or didn't just like anyone who's reading this lol. jmho
  • If Matt walked into my garage and saw my Maxshine polishers and water based detailing products he would probably have a stroke! Works for me though.
