Session 1 (Val MBAs): Valuation - Broad Themes and Logistical Details

Published 2024-01-29
In this, the first session of the valuation class, I told you that that this was a class about valuation in all of its many forms – different approaches (intrinsic, relative & contingent claim), different forums (for acquisitions, value enhancement, investing) and across different types of businesses (private & public, small and large, developed & emerging market). I also laid out the broad themes in the class - that valuation is a craft (that requires constant work), that valuing something can yield a different number from pricing that same thing, that a good valuation is a bridge between stories and numbers and finally, that acting on a valuation requires faith.

Where is the spreadsheet he says he will provide so we don't have to be excel ninjas creating spreadsheets before doing the main task of valuation itself!

I find it deeply insensitive to make jokes on earthquakes in Turkey. While your comment about construction foundations may be accurate, the loss of lives and the devastation are not laughing matters.
