THE HU – ‘’Wolf Totem ‘’ - Mongolian Wrestling

Published 2020-06-01
Wrestling is the most important of the Mongolian culture's historic "Three Manly Skills", that also includes horsemanship and archery. Genghis Khan considered wrestling to be an important way to keep his army in good physical shape and combat-ready. Cave paintings in Mongolia dating back to Neolithic age of 7000BC show grappling of two naked men and surrounded by crowds. Wrestling was a military sport intended to provide mainly strength, stamina, and skills training to troops. When a male child is born in a family, Mongols wish him to become a wrestler

Is it any wonder why the Mongolians dominate the Japanese world of Sumo. Hokuho is considered the GOAT of Sumo, Tero is in my view the greatest come back story in the history of sports!
  • I'm reading a novel right now about the life of Genghis Khan. In it, it mentions heavily wrestling as a way to prove manly strength. Now I see what it looks like. I would like to go to Mongolia one day. Very strong people.

Wikipedia on Mongolian Wrestling: „When a male child is born in a family, Mongols wish him to become a wrestler“ - What a great warrior culture! Be advised from your western brothers, that nothing is as important as your cultural roots! Never give up on them otherwise you will be lost like we are.

Naadam is a traditional festival in Mongolia. The festival is also locally termed "eriin gurvan naadam", "the three games of men". The games are Mongolian wrestling, horse racing, and archery, and are held throughout the country during midsummer.
