Many times whatsapp does not connect to your phone book so the whatsapp then does not display name but shows only numbers. So connect your whatsapp to your contact books so it may display names and you may easily identify your friends & family member by name swiftly. Below is important commands:-
WhatsApp is not connected to Phone
Go Settings & type Whatsapp in search box
OR
WhatsApp is not connected to Phone
Go Settings & then App after that click WhatsApp
Open Permissions & click contacts
Tick Mark in Allow button
Then restart your phone Or refresh Whatsapp by pushing downward Or Text any of your Contact Or Wait for a short while the Whatsapp will be connect to your phone book
