Hi friends, happy Thursday!

Welcome to the Dark History podcast. If you watch my videos, you probably know that I LOVE makeup. I buy it, I wear it, I bathe in it, I AM IT. So of course it got me thinking… So I did some digging, and I was surprised to discover that makeup has a dark past, and could even get you killed. Today we’re discussing magic, ritual and everything else that has to do with the dark history of makeup!

I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History.

Fun fact: The red shade that Elizabeth Arden created during WW2 was actually made to match the red piping on the military uniforms and it was issued to all women in the service in their make up kit. The shade was eventually known as "Victory Red". Bésame Cosmetics actually sells a reproduction of this shade on their website as well as other period accurate shades from various decades in history.

My grandmother always said, “put on a little lipstick. You’ll feel better.” I never did. But, she wore it in the hospital before she died. It may not make me feel better. But, it made her feel like she could take on the world!

Fun fact: they still use lead in lipstick in many major brands. If you'd like to see if your own lipstick contains lead, simply swatch a few swipes onto your hand, take a solid gold ring, and rub it back and forth over the lipstick swatch. If the swatch begins turning black, it does contain lead. I hope this is helpful!

    😂😂 "slutty...but approachable 😁" I love you Bailey! 🤣

“We always have just enough for a new lipstick” why was this so spot on?! 😅
  • @pjlewisful
I've been a makeup artist and selling cosmetics sense the late 60's but now that I'm retired, I'm a portrait artist. So can you imagine how interesting this talk was!?!?! Thanks for being you, Bailey. By the way, I'm 75 and still wear makeup every day.
  • I saw someone else say this but todays video will have me reiterate that: we need a calendar and each month is one of Joan’s looks

The Queen of makeup talking about the Dark History behind makeup?! YASSSSS 🙌🏼😍

Awh the end was such a full circle moment. I’ve worked at ulta for almost 7 years and what I enjoy the most is when I’m able to help a guest find a product that makes them feel beautiful, and watching their face light up when they look at themselves in the mirror. I tell guests all the time “makeup is to ENHANCE the beauty you already have. It doesn’t make you beautiful.” Makeup is so special to me, I love this video. Thank you!
  • Will you be releasing your own makeup line anytime in the future? I would buy EVERYTHING

The queen buried with her lip paints and Bailey: “Imma need two coffins cause I’ve got some faves” 😂😂😂 “please make sure I’m buried with my MAC lipstick” 😂😂😂😂
  • @Jennifer-jz4kk
Not only is she stunning, hilarious, kind, intelligent and did I mention stunning?!?! Like, naturally, a beautiful woman. Shout out to Bailey!

  • Ok, I know I've said this before, but does anyone else really want bailey to put out those jammies she's wearing on her merch. I love them. They're like the best to wear and cozy up and watch her videos 😊❤❤

My mother wouldn’t even go to the mailbox without lipstick! Her color…Revlon’s Blasé Apricot. I keep her lipstick on my makeup table, she was 89 when she passed, and yes, she was wearing lipstick! 💋💄

I swear Bailey is so funny- “Today, I’m going for slutty but approachable” 😭

As a lash artist and a die hard Bailey fan, I'd love to hear more about the history of lash extensions in all forms
