Here is an FAQ of all the stupid comments I'll see. Chances are one of these will be on here, and in that case I'll just refer you back to the FAQ. Either the product is for you, or it isn't. If it isn't, you don't have to try and convince me how much the product isn't for you. I'm here to sell gas caps, not try to convince you the value in them and you still not buy one.

Q : This doesn't prevent someone from stealing your gas, they can still do it, right?

A: The purpose of this isn't to prevent gas theft. It's to prevent someone pouring god knows what into your tank and you running your engine.

--

Q: Who cares if they steal $3 worth of gas?

A: I don't care if someone steals $3 worth of gasoline. What I do care is about running god knows what through my engine, and chasing my tail trying to diagnose it.

--

Q: You're worried about ruining a $80 engine? Psh, if you don't have $10,000 in your savings routinely then you shouldn't be in this hobby!

A: Truth be told, the money part isn't my concern. I have plenty of cranks, bottom ends and cylinders I can easily rebuild with. It's the time and energy I have put into it that matters the most. The specific cylinder I have took me days to work on, and that means the most to me.

--

Q: If you have to worry about vandalism then you should move somewhere else.

A: Sure, if you'll pay my salary for the next six months while I get moved in, moving costs and other expenses then sure. It would be cheaper to just use the locking gas cap though.

--

Q: This is a waste of money (insert reasons to make themselves feel better they can't afford it)

A: Well, either the product is for you or isn't for you. If you don't leave the house and never go to the store and built a kit just to go around the block in the evening to settle down before you retire for sleep then it's probably a waste of money.

--

Q: What if someone breaks the cap to pour stuff into it?
A: The idea would be that you would have to physically damage the cap in order to open it. Therefor you would see it before you run it. Oh let me guess, you're going to tell me about some super secret way you learned how to compromise gas tanks when you worked for the KGB that would leave no physical signs of tampering.

Q: Wait a second, can't someone just bring a tool kit with them, unmount the carburetor from the intake manifold, drain the bowl on the carb, pour the substance to ruin the engine in the bowl, then put the carb back together and remount it to the bike so that you won't have to damage the cap? This is what we did back in my day!

A: Granted, if someone is on a serial hunt mission to find unsecured motorized bicycles just to do this, then no it would not help. The likely hood of someone pouring something in there versus someone running around town, seeking out motorized bicycles just to do that seems like a drastic comparison.

  • If you're "that" broke then this is honestly a great hobby. Its so damn cheap and you can learn alot
  • If they want your gas all they have to do is pull the fuel line off and drain it. The locking gas cap is just for show at that point.
