You should have solar with a battery back up. You'll be completely self sufficient when the grid goes down. Generators can be a back up to charge the batteries in case of cloudy days. Running a generator and not using all that it outputs is a waste while all could be put towards charging batteries. That's what we have at our house up here in the northeast. We never even know when there are outages until the Internet doesn't work

Just a thought. When you are showing your boys a new piece of equipment that you just bought, you really should teach them that the first thing they should do is read the instructions and all the cautions and make sure that they’re being safe. I understand that you know what you’re doing but it’s really important that men be OK with following instructions. It begins with you Dad.
