Love a good SnW video. My 1st handgun was a 686. Still have it, 18 years later. Still a reliable tack driver. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

I have that same revolver in .44 magnum the model 69,great handgun! Just watched your review on the model 60 definitely my next purchase, you are definitely my S&W review go to guy from now on 👍

How would you compare the recoil, muzzle jump, etc of the 66 with the model 586? I bought my 586 in the mid eighties, owned a model 27, but never owned a K frame 357.

Been thinking about getting one of these. How tight is the barrel shroud on the barrel itself? Curious how difficult it will be to keep the muzzle clean

I’m debating between the 66 and the 60 as a revolver to carry when hunting (no large predators, just to finish if needed). Does the 66 shoot measurably better than the 60 3-inch?
  • Very informative Robert! I just have one question I’m currently looking for a revolver to purchase as my first edc. I’m a pretty active guy as I do landscaping the majority of the day before heading to the gym in the evening. Would this gun be good for a first carry in 38 spl or is it a bit too much. I’m also on the shorter side in height while being in very good shape.

Nice video, how’s the finish holding up? I’m contemplating the 66 4 inch vs the 686 stainless. I just love how the 66 feels and balances in my hand. I’d be shooting mostly 38s anyways. Just curious about he longevity of the finish.

Which one do you prefer to shoot more? I can’t decide on the 2.75 or the 4.25.

I just bought my first ever S&W 357 model 66 yesterday at a gun show. Now trying to find bullets. So, I can go shot it and see if owning a 357 was worth my money.

Question, is the larger the frame the less recoil. I’m looking to buy a revolver from sw but I don’t like recoil. Should I stick to the n frame and get the smallest bullet it comes with. What are your recommendations

Make this your backup car gun 🦀

First smith i bought. The 4 inch to me is the perfect representation of the revolver platform. It can shoot rounds that are way more manageable but can also dish out heavy mags, built tough, goes bang every time and just looks as youd imagine one would look like when you hear the word, "revolver." I put the altamont walnut coke bottles on mine and it instantly gave it that natural old world feel like youre somehow returning to your roots when i pick it up. It has a soul to it. Until i finally get my s&w r8, this is the gun i have next to my 92fs as nightstand companions. My only gripe is the hilary hole. Damn democrats.

Do you think this gun would make a decent woods carry gun for hiking out on trails? With possible dangerous animal defense in mind? Those possible dangerous animals being mainly mountain lions or coyotes. I think a good 357 would do the job if I found myself in a not so friendly situation with one of them.
  • @itsme6026
That’s a lot of motion cocking the hammer.
  • Trigger, hammer and cylinder release are cast, not machined any more. For a gun that retails for $850...sigh.

Do you have some sort of illness? I'm just curious as to why you hold it that way?
