Trash talking has been a staple in combat sports. And the man Who revolutionized that in the sport of MMA was Chael Sonnen. But as entertaining as Chael was, he was never able to win a belt in a major promotion. So my question is, how good was he actually?

All I know is that I watched him beat up, probably the greatest middleweight I've ever seen in Anderson Silva. Chael pasted him mercilessly for three long rounds. Sure Silva eventually escaped by the skin of his teeth (because thats what truly great champions can do). But that was the most brutal, relentless mauling that poor Anderson ever took.

The issue with Chael is he had arguably two of the greatest in his weight classes, Silva, Jon Jones… if he debuted today he would destroy…

The thing about Chael was his ability to get fights with guys who were top talent at the time and the fans were split with who would win. I wouldn’t call him overrated, but the fans had a special confidence in his abilities. I see hype trains get derailed after a single loss, but no one could derail the train of uncle CHAEL.
