Upon winning his second Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the western DJANGO UNCHAINED, Quentin Tarantino wanted to ride it high…by helming another western, but getting THE HATEFUL EIGHT to the big screen–like, the really big screen–wasn’t easy. Plagued by uncooperative weather, technological tip-toeing, two significant leaks, and more, THE HATEFUL EIGHT was one of Tarantino’s most difficult shoots and one of his worst-received films - initially.

So tighten up that noose and tune up the Martin guitar as we find out…WTF Happened to this movie?!

  • I have no idea why this movie was not as critically acclaimed as most other Tarantino films. I think it is highly underrated.

This is actually the Tarantino movie I revisit most often.
  • @martind4562
I never understood why this film got so much hate, I always felt it was very entertaining and the performances were amazing. It was a crime that Goggins wasn’t nominated for an Oscar
  • People who say this movie is boring don’t truly understand how to pay attention to dialogue. IMO this is the best Tarantino movie ever made. Tarantino, the crew, and the cast did such a good job working on The Hateful Eight

Probably my favorite QT movie. And let's not forget Morricone's beautiful score.
  • Its not even my favorite QT film but I find myself rewatching this one and Django the most
  • @wstine79
I remember hearing about how Kurt Russell smashed a very rare guitar during filming and everyone was upset
  • QTs "worst" movie is by far my favorite western film. Hateful 8 and Jackie Brown both deserve more credit than they get.
  • @nahuel
I absolutely LOVED this movie. I didn't want it to end hahhaha. It has so many details behind to make u feel so many things.
  • I really appreciate how much Quentin Tarantino loves the Western. Good year for Kurt Russell too, as he was also in the horror tinted reimagining of John Ford's 1956 Western Masterpiece, The Searchers. The reimagining was S. Craig Zahler's Bone Tomahawk.

This is still one of the most engulfing and transportive movies ive ever seen. i cant believe ive seen it in so many "worst" rankings. I was mesmerized by the way the story and mistery flowed and the actor performances. Absolute masterpiece.
  • Next to Jackie Brown, this is Tarantinos most underrated film in my opinion.
  • My friend and I drove 6 hours away in an ice storm to another city to watch this during the road show run. Truly the best way to watch it and it really surprises me that people think this is a forgettable film. It's not perfect or his best but I would still say it's great.
  • @the-trustees
I normally dislike westerns, but Q really knows how to make a flick.
  • I loved this film, it’s the kind of movie that you watch on a beautiful spring weekend and get lost in the dialogue, the cinematography and the acting. It’s Tarantinos most “stage play” film and would work very well on the stage too.
  • Honestly, I never had an issue with this movie. I thought it was a great contained drama / thriller. Not QT's best work, but not his worst.
  • @antimatta8714
It's easily one of my favourite Quentin Tarantino films.
  • I fail to understand how people consider this movie a major step back in Tarantino's filmography. This film is a masterpiece and highly underrated. It has great tension, great dialogue, great humor, and great suspense from beginning to end. I love The Hateful Eight a bunch and I have always considered it one of Tarantino's best works. I actually liked it much much more than Django Unchained. Sue me, I don't care.
