Growing Up With Canadian TV: Vol.1 - TheCartoonGamer

Published 2019-03-22
Since I could look at a screen I've been watching television, and since I'm Canadian a fair amount came from Canada. You may be aware of some of the more infamous shows we've put out, but allow a Canadian to show you just how fun, interesting and unique some of our shows really were, and the effects they had on me personally.

I've been physically angry at myself for months for forgetting about For Better or for Worse. It's the realest, most heartwarming, and wholesome show/strip I've ever seen in my life.

Children's TV was trippy AF in Canada. And I just took it all for granted.

If there was a Canadian retro channel (kind of like how Teletoon had Teletoon Retro for a while there) I would probably actually get a TV provider JUST for that channel alone

You talked about Ruby Gloom and Big Comfy Couch, those alone made the video great! But over all thanks for sharing your memories with us, love the vid!
  • We had several Canadian shows here in the UK like “Grojband”, “Jimmy Two Shoes”, “Sidekick”, “Atomic Betty”, “George of The Jungle” And some U.K. co-productions Like “The Hoobs” And “ToddWorld”
  • You've managed to drudge up parts of my brain that haven't seen the light of day in over a decade., this is absolutely wild

Aw Canadian cartoons , the stuff that made a good chunck of my childhood , shows like Class of the titants , Total Drama , Totally Spies ,6teen were stuff i grew up w with and remember quite fondly.😄👌

I thought I was the only one that remembered Cyber Six. I thought it was a fever-dream.
  • Never thought I'd see The Raccoons and Ruby Gloom in the same thumbnail together
  • Ahhh I watched Ruby Gloom so much as a kid. It still looks rocking with that artstyle

I'm an American, and yet Big Comfy Couch was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Also being American, we sadly never got Ruby Gloom, but even as an adult, it's still a good show (and the fact that the Japanese dub has Rie Kugimiya totally doesn't make me biased >_>)
  • Speaking as an American, it’s really cool to see different cartoons that people grew up with in different countries. It’s almost like stepping into a parallel universe

Good stuff, dude! 7:51 - The theme of land/environment before profits/privatisation is a very traditional way of life for our Indigenous Peoples. APTN likely appreciated The Raccoons for reinforcing such an ideology to young viewers while still being very entertaining.

i love this because it seems like whenever people talk about stuff that they're nostalgic about on the internet, it's usually a lot of american stuff i can't relate to.

Never thought I would hear anyone mention APTN. I'm a Mi'kmaq person so I had to watch it a few times growing up and it's just... Weird to hear it... Be mentioned... I don't know how to end this comment.

Big Comfy Couch was one of my favourite shows when I was younger, I even had my own Molly doll. This video helped me remember it and I even showed it to the little girl I'm babysitting. Passing on some good stuff :)

When stickn around moved to like 6am I still used to try to catch it. It was SUCH a good show.

Only in this specific comment section we're walking on an edge of reality, diving straight into the Mandela effect and back, confirming false memories and exploring some of the most obscure pieces of media you'll never hear about. You're entering The Twilight Zone.
