Hey, I’ve had a few comments asking why I didn’t use a graphite powder or spray so I thought I would clear things up: I have a graphite powder which is what most piano Technicians use, but I didn’t have any with me that day. Since I was an hour away from home, I used what my old mentor taught me to use in tight situations… a good old pencil.

Interesting that you use a pencil for that. We use graphite in the form of a white powder on pianos at my work.
  • Watched this twice before I realized I WENT TO SCHOOL WITH THIS GUY. So cool so see how you've turned your passion into a career. :)

I was at a concert over 30 years ago where a young, but already world famous Hungarian pianist was playing. Suddenly he got up and rushed off stage. Audience gasped. About a minute later he ran back on together with his friend an equally famous pianist. They proceeded to take the piano apart and fixed whatever the problem was in 5 minutes and the concert resumed. For those interested, they are Zoltán Kocsis and Dezső Ránki.

A full video where you explain in more detail the solutions to these problems would be nice. Great job nevertheless!

A friend of mine was called to tune a piano at a lady's house. As he was in one room working on the piano, he heard the woman in the next room saying 'Come over here." "Smell it." "Lick it." "Taste it." He went to see what was going on and the woman was trying to feed her cat.

FYI, modern pencils aren't graphite either! They're crystalline graphite derived from petrolium, and kaolin (clay). The softest pencils are 90% graphite but harder ones are as little as 20%. Ideally, just buy pure graphite powder for lubrication - no clay, no petrolium byproducts on your wood.

I like how her concern was if it was fake or real and not who's it was

“Pencil lead is made of graphite” it annoys me how we still refer to it as lead 😂
  • I would love to see the home environment (i.e. your wonderful parents) that allowed you to be the self-sufficient gentleman that you are today 👍🏻🧿🧿❤️
  • Imagine hiring this guy and you walk in and he’s drawing your piano with a pencil
  • The inside of a piano looks really nice! It’s cool how you get to have a job you like (:
  • Different field, I refurbished pinball machines back in the 80s. Nice to be able to enjoy what you are doing. Really enjoy your videos.
