Some economists have projected that both the U.S. and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. A global recession, defined as a contraction in annual global per capita income, is more rare because China and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies. Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth.

It was a very bad decision to remove the Glass-Steagall Act in the late 1990s, which led to the spectacular failure of huge banks during the financial crisis of 2007–2008. To prevent another disaster, Dodd-Frank and this statute both need to be reestablished right away. What happened with SVB is only the beginning of what will happen if nothing is done to address the current situation.
  • Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) was the 16th largest bank in the US, and it wasn't subject to the most strict controls. How many banks actually are subject to those controls, besides the big four? Any bank could suffer a run and fail, and if that happens to a community level or even state level bank it probably won't upset the national economy or ecosystem of banks, but any multi-state bank should be more closely watched.

It’s like all these banks full of professionals are just terrible at their jobs and treat it like a casino?

The recent bank bailout serves as a timely reminder for businesses to diversify their financial holdings and mitigate risk. It is essential to allocate funds proportionately across multiple investments to prevent significant losses in case of any financial turmoil or market downturn. I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my $138k stock portfolio, what’s the best way to take advantage of this bear market?
  • Hey russian banks were supposed to go bust after sanctions. Instead its happening in the west. What happened?

Stop interrupting your guests so abruptly and rudely at the end, if them speaking an extra 30 seconds breaks your broadcast then maybe there are more important things to reconsider
  • Concerns of liquidity spreading and becoming a global banking crisis...... There isnt a single bank out there that hasnt a liquidity problem. None. The only factor that has allowed banks to operate with a perpetual liquidity problem is the fact that customers believe they can withdraw their money whenever they want without any proof to back that believe. Its over the moment that believe is even rumoured to no longer be the truth.

Keep supporting the USD and let them freely export their inflation to the rest of the world.

In the case of SVB, the money is held in 10-year T-Bills and Mortgage Back Securities, the safest kind of investment, only they are not liquid without penalty until mature. This is all very technical, but the BK will allow the FDIC to sell the assets at par, not current face value, a bookkeeping trick that works, and perhaps why SVB bailed instead of trying to hold on. ..

A bank needs depositors!!!! Where is CS going to get them??? Keep digging and don’t let them off the hook… This bank is going down

Very strange answer. Credit Suisse didn’t have a run. It’s just a company poorly managed. Companies go down, and that’s it. Nobody is too big to tumble and fall. Especially if tumbling around for years.
