It's extra creepy that their expressions make them seem like they're trapped in a state of half-consciousness, and especially with how the Giant's Head tanks in the base game will actively watch you, the Furnace Golem's lack of eyes is downright terrifying.

" Giantdad... so you were at our side all along. Our guiding legend. "

I KNEW IT, I F**** KNEW IT, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING MAD AFTER SO MANY ATTEMPT'S TO KILL THEM, I always notice the mouth open the moment i was about to do the critical strike, now i can be in peace...

extremely unsettling. i love that they bother to do this sort of thing when almost no one would ever actually notice this while actually playing the game.

Lorewise, these things are made to be sort of like a wicked version of what should resemble the fire giants. They even have mask resembling them over their body. So, regardless of when Messmer destruction happened, before of after the fire giant extintion ,these things were explicity made to have sort of a sadistic irony for the Hornsent of seeing the wickerman resembling a way worse version of something they feared, knowing they also had their kind burnt inside them.

The less you know, the better you sleep. And it seems I'm definitely not going to fall sleep this night...

The furnace golems might’ve also been designed to be Marika and Messmer’s “jars” for the Hornsent: A massive, animated entity powered by living beings stuffed inside it to keep it active.

Oh that's terrifying, that makes these things SO much worse

The Furnace Golems looking like The Fell God/Fire Giants as a way to prevoke the Hornsent is just further proof that the real message of Elden Ring is "Everyone hates gingers"
  • I wonder if Marika, when she defeated the Fell God, somehow bound its slumbering essence into these wickermen idols. Similarly how Fell God is sleeping within last Fire Giant until awoken with a sacrifice. It would make sense that Fire God would be difficult to extinguish fully, but could be forced to simmer. Reflecting the state of Giant's Forge. Perhaps Marika discovered that like the Forge, Fell God could not be extinguished.

The item titled furnace visage, which is a crafting item, states: "A smaller imitation of the furnace column's visage. A stone mask surrounded by curled horns, depicting the fell god of fire that haunts the sagas of the hornsent."

"Mr Zaki i think the fire golem things need work, they only have four attacks" "Omg do you know what i dreamt about?"
