This was beyond informative. Thanks HI and team. Can we have Mr. Barnett back on? As a take away I learned to treat people especially sound men, with more grace active and effective listen not to respond but understand. Remembering that when or if he’s opening up let him no interruptions or even questions until he finish speaking. Be a safe place for him to land because he’s also fighting just like I am out in the world and beyond.

As a black woman, this has been an amazing podcast. It’s about time that black men are able to speak and be heard. We preach about equality this is something that everyone needs to hear. Especially, as a woman, because this gives us an insight on how to give grace and space for them to feel comfortable in the relationship.

Yooooooo I'm not a dude but I was suicidal 3xs!! I used to cut at 13, took pills at 17, and tried to kill myself by thinking if I stuffed the muffler of my car I could die of carbon monoxide at 29. On that day God turned it around. Before I decided to end my life, I said let me go to church ask God for forgiveness and I can die peacefully. Well, I went to church, and in the middle of service my pastor at the time, stopped and had the whole church pray for me. He said that death was over me and that they had to pray for me immediately! The spirit that was in me was upset. So they prayed, then I had to go to another service that day and the pastor of that did the same thing. So that day I realized that God still had a purpose for my life even through my pain.

Dr. Jay, thank you for being transparent. My prayer is that your vulnerability will help fathers understand the impact of their absence. You are a wise man.

This episode was so enlightening. My 17 year old daughter died by suicide a year ago as of yesterday. She also self harmed and had a previous attempt the year before. I thought I was getting her all the help she needed (psychiatrist, a counselor , and iep plan for school ) but she still ended her life and I have been on a healing journey every since. 😢 this episode was very deep and really gave me insight into her mind 😢

This conversation makes me more cognizant that our men may be suffering in silence. This was so important for me to see because I have sons. Thank you Ryan and Ty for having Jay Barnett on.
  • @jerlynnghee207
As a social worker, this conversation is appreciated & needed! Thank you Dr. Jay for leading the charge! 🙌🏿

Out of all the conversations, this is the best for me. I’m glad we’re learning about relationships, but I need to heal me first. And this is the conversation to make the healing start. Thanks men. I wish more of us men would chime in to say, I identify.

Whoa this is so powerful. As I watch this episode, I weep for my father, my brother and my brother's son. 3 generations of not feeling worthy, not knowing how significant their existence is. My dad has been sober for over 20 years, while my brother is currently in rehab and my nephew is acting out. I just wish I could pour my wisdom and love into them all because I understand the pains they all hold onto. However, I will do my best to show them that they are loved. God blessed me with 2 sons because I prayed to be the one to break the generational curses. But I need my husband to do his healing as well. This episode has definitely given me the understanding to give him grace and the space to heal. Thank you guys. God bless the 3 of you.

Dr. Du, a licensed psychologist in Texas, here. Good Job Hardly Initiated! I stumbled upon one of your videos a couple of weeks back, and since then, I've tapped in to several others. Dr. Barnett, hearty congratulations on recently completing your doctoral degree; that's a significant achievement. I appreciate your openness in sharing your journey and shedding light on the mental health challenges faced by Black men. It's alarming how many Black males, including athletes, are lost to suicide, a reality often overlooked and causes of death not always shared. As you rightly pointed out, many Black men tend to keep their struggles to themselves. Your advocacy is commendable, brother. Sending you a bouquet of flowers 🌷💐. Keep spreading your message #TMC
  • @PharmDST8
Blessings to you, HI and Dr. Barnett. Next month on 11/28 will mark 2 years that my husband sat in his truck and took his life at 43. Black men, we need you. Your families need you. Your children need you. ❤🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽

This touched me so deeply and I'm a woman. Young men everywhere need to hear Jay speak. The knowledge he possesses from a personal place must be shared. He is a blessing to the broken ❤❤❤❤❤.

Dr. Jay Barnett is an well-informed, connected, deep, astute, and an exceptional leader. His words travel straight to the soul. He's balanced and humble! I listened to what he said, how he said it, and heard the wisdom, honesty, love, pain, and healing. Doc, I thank you for your work; you are doing what needs to be done for yourself and our community. THANK YOU for those healing words.
  • @LaSultrySoul
Women also need not to be afraid to be alone when going through their healing process as well. And for the record, seeing a dude cry isn't weak it's the most powerful and intimate experience that you can ever have with a guy. It's purely human.
  • This episode really helped me. I’m really going to find a therapist to talk about things that Dr. Jay shared. We thank God for you all!
  • @Treebee6009
Great conversation. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:4, "FATHERS, provoke not your children to anger." Children's anger springs from the dad, and typically it's not from what he's done, but from what he didn't do. My prayer is that boys and men embrace their identity in Christ not in performance or other people, even parents. God says even when your father and mother abandon you, the Lord will take you up (Psalm 27:10). No one else is coming to save you.

This platform provides the information necessary to do just that. Thank you Hardly Initiated for blessing us with this educational masterpiece. Keep it goin. It’s helping so many people heal❤

Brilliantly said Dr. Jay … “I don’t want what you have, I need what you know… because what you know will take me where I need to go”…. this statement is why I sit and talk with my Elders.
