Highlight of Istanbul. Hagia Sophia, officially the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque, is a mosque, a former church, and a major cultural and historical site in Istanbul, Turkey. The last of three church buildings to be successively erected on the site by the Eastern Roman Empire, it was completed in 537 AD.

    A Mosque that wore many hats. The Engineering was impressive. Keeping in mind the era. They're open quite late. A lot of the Thai Temples have dress codes also. You were lucky to get to go to the balcony the first trip. Still looks amazing for something so old. I didn't even think of the lack of support inside until you mentioned it. And I am a retired Engineer🫢Nice information. The relics being kept there. I hadn't heard that before. Another nice piece Michael👍👍50

    What an amazing Mosque! Thanks for walking us through and explaining the history! It's so beautiful, and like you said, wonderful that it is 1600 years old! Very special that it is an active Mosque and that they let the pubic view inside. The ceilings are amazing and so are all the chandeliers!! 👍👍
