Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site, General Sherman and Me - I had no idea the surprise I would find about my family history the day I visited Bentonville Battlefield in North Carolina. We were traveling from the Outer Banks to Raleigh, North Carolina. We approached a sign saying, “Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site, next exit.” Having some extra time before our airplane took off, we took the exit onto the country road to see the battlefield. I didn’t know much about this Civil War battle and how I was personally connected to it. #civilwar #northcarolina #battle #battlefield

    Small world my grandfather’s 4th West Virginia volunteer infantry was under command by general Sherman while at Vicksburg May-July 1863 and I did a video “earning the Medal of Honor” about a fellow who served with my great grandfather during the siege of Vicksburg. I to feel like that if my grandfather died I wouldn’t be here either, yet so many people that our grandfathers fought to free forget that. Well that’s gratitude for you, and that really bothers me. Great job on this 👍👍👍

    My great grandfather was in a Confederate Volunteer unit here. He was from Grantham, NC and survived the war. If you walk into the woods away from the road, you can still see shallow depressions in the ground where some of the trenches were. Cool video!

    Story of my life. Show up during refurbishment. Separate kitchen, never heard of that. I've been here although in the dead of winter. Freezing cold. How cool to find that piece of history connection. 30th Iowa...how cool. How nostalgic. As far as I know, I had no connection, but I felt the battle when I was there. Good thing your 3X Grandfather survived then, RIGHT?? Nice video👍👍9

    As a long time pipe smoker it was good to see the NC tobacco fields. Fascinating to see the plantation farm. Fascinating connection with your G G G Grandfather and to see the battlefield formations must have been moving for you✌
