Across The Spider Verse is an indisputable MASTERPIECE. It is the future of animation. It is BEYOND cinema at this point. I am absolutely in awe at the successes of this Lord Miller production and I have many many thoughts. Although funnily enough, I was NOT onboard with this movie after my first viewing. But now that I've seen it a couple of times I can share so many extra details, so many techniques used in the storytelling and a whole underbelly of a theory that is just mwah, starring fan favourite character Spider Punk aka Hobie Brown and how he had planned everything behind the events of Spider-Man: Across The Spider Verse...

...I really wanna make that marathon of a Spiderverse video now. So I probably will. See you at Chri

  • I like how Milesā€™ ā€œhave two cakesā€ joke with the counsellor comes up in multiple ways. He literally buys two cakes for his dads party after not having enough space for one. And he is the only spider person who wants metaphorically ā€œhave his cake and eat it tooā€ by saving his dad and saving the canon. Incredibly well written film
  • Animated Spider-Punk was a legend! Didnā€™t care for Miguelā€™s authority, covertly helped Miles escape & lookout for Gwen. Hobie honestly is the goat, my man supported Miles and never actually agreed with Miguel's strict rules.

Hobie making his own watch was even better becuase it showed how smart he truly is while still being punk and being his own person, it also shows how all of the spider people really donā€™t need to rely on Miguel as much as they think they do
  • Shoutout to Hobie the Spider-Punk. They could've just made him the typical jerk or rival or that cringey love triangle trope but nope he's a really great guy. Supportive, fun, unique, and even when Miles gets trapped with everyone arguing Hobie is the only one to go "Hey, remember that trick I showed you" and he didn't chase after Miles.
  • Spider-Punk is so amazingly written. Mixing the 1970s british Punk Rock culture with his amazing style of animation is so beautiful to watch. it shows that the animators not only care about the characters, but the cultures and communities they arise from. A 11/10 movie!

Even Mayday Parker is an anomaly, with Miles Morales being the reason Peter B. Parker wanted to have kids. Meaning Mayday could cause problems in the next movie

"Aren't you in a band?" "I don't believe in consistency" "There you go." "Hobie you're not helping." "Good." "And YOU....I'm gonna pretend you're not even here....I-I just can't with you." "I ain't even here." "Just a tip use your palms not just your fingers." Hobie is such a king. He came in, stirred some sht, and dipped. I think he'd absolutely LOVE hanging out with Tom, Andrew and Tobey. Who let's be real would be team free will 100%.

Little thing about Miguel O'Hara: He's half-spider, like literally. He was a famous geneticist in his timeline trying to recreate the powers of the original Peter Parker, an accident happens and he more or less gets what he wants but not exactly. A quick rundown of his powers: - He's stronger physically than your average spiderman - No spidersense, he instead has extremely heightened hearing and sight - Can't stick to walls naturally, he uses retractable talons on his hands and feet to climb - He is among the few spidermen that develop their own webbing from their body - He has "spider fangs" that he can use to paralyze his targets should he bite them - His suit is extremely durable but malleable enough to allow his talons to come out and not tear through the suit and also allows him to glide with a web-like material connecting from his forearm to his ribs (imagine like a flying squirrel) Also, my current theory on why he looks so different compared to how he appeared in end credits of the first one is because of the serum he was injecting himself with. Essentially, he's been amping his powers as he may have thought that his prior abilities were not enough to protect the spiderverse

I just appreciate that these movies are helping remove the stigma that animated films canā€™t be emotionally powerful and enjoyable to all audiences. Iā€™m still annoyed the Oscarā€™s have a animated section as if itā€™s a genre when itā€™s really a medium for any genre.
  • @mikez4388
I'm glad Spider-punk wasn't involved in any love triangle. Instead, he was more of a rebel, but a great ally who tries to help people. He's definitely a highlight in the sequel šŸ˜
  • @MuzMysyq
I don't know whether you noticed it but in the ITSV when Miles and RIPeter first meet, Miles' spider sense is green and violet, but then changes to red and blue indicating how Miles' fate changed. It is actually insane how much the two films are connected.
  • I feel like Gwen's dad at the end is proof that the cannon isn't set? he is no longer the captain so unless she gets close to another captain she will not experience that event. Also I thought that the point was that 42 Prowler was a hero to that world as Miles was destined to get bitten instead (we see him right next to the glitch spider), at least that is my interpretation.

My favorite part about Hobie definitely has to be the sheer level of subversion to your expectations he is. Like, we're all so happy he wasn't just there to be a shitty love triangle but think about it. Miles hears about him, he hears about him sharing interests with Gwen, he hears that Gwen crashes with him sometimes, they were setting us up to expect it. People that have seen a lot of movies would also expect the character in this position to join the opposite side of whatever conflict arises between all the spiders to be a direct obstacle for the main character and have a way to break the love triangle at the end of the movie. Then when he shows up, he breaks a barrier Miles couldn't, both Gwen and Pavitr like him, they talk about his abundance of sweaters which with the love triangle expectation and the commonality of "wearing your boyfriends sweater" and then you can top it all off with the fact that he gave miles advice that could easily have been read as him looking down on Miles and sarcastically saying it. But then the whole movie Hobie does nothing but actually support Miles in making his own decisions regardless of what other people want or say and echoes the original advice as REAL advice and not just some jerk comment, and joins back up in the ragtag group that's going to be resisting Miguel to help Miles in the next movie.
  • @Dino_Boy_2.0
I like how they explain what he says in UK slang. Really was funny šŸ˜‚
  • @Dookieman1975
There were deleted scenes where the spot was mocked by other villains in a bar and in the post credits he was gonna solo all of them. Explaining where he was for like an hour before the ending
  • @Dino_Boy_2.0
Spider punks world being almost like it was based on a scrap book kind of world was pretty cool, and how when Indian Spider-Man hit the Spot, the words were Hindi (or Punjabi) just amazing attention to detail
  • @ricardomonteiro870
Hobie Brown is an agent of chaos. the whole quitting scene is something a crazy person with no regards for consequences does and I love it. "you're not helping" "good". proceeds to tell miles to use his palms which leads to all around chaos and then quits. absolute chad of chaos
  • I love how they used this as an homage to the Misfits. Hobie's world designation being Earth 138, Taskmasker looking like the Crimson Ghost with a devillock and even quoting lyrics from Hybrid Moments as his dialogue: "If you're gonna scream, scream with me!"
  • @krisr4285
My favorite thing about SpiderPunk is how he just hung around to save Miles
  • @finnster3276
absolutely loving how hobie and margo werent plot points for a love triangle and weā€™re more there to stimulate just a little bit of natural jealousy to make clear to the audiences that gwen and miles still like each other that way. It was subtle and I appreciated it so much that they didnā€™t downgrade hobie and margos characters just to exist solely for cliche romance drama or sumth lmao
