After 14 years since the events of Avatar of 2009, Jake Sully’s family has gotten suprisingly big and it could be confusing if you haven’t recently watched the original movie and the new trailers. In fact, In Avatar the Way of Water, Jake and
Neytiri now have 5 kids since the battle for the tree of souls, 2 adopted and 3 biological. I think the reason James Cameron made Sully’s family so big is because the franchise will incorporate some family drama like it happened in many other franchises like star wars for example. And in this video I’ll explain the entire Sully family tree including all of their kids and some other family members that most people probably forgot about.

Starting with Jake Sully himself who was born on Earth on August 24th 2126. Since he didn’t have any interest in sciences he joined the marines. However, while serving in Venezuela he suffered a terrible injury and was paralyzed from the waist down. however His twin brother Tom Sully was a scientist with PhD honours participating in the Avatar program in Pandora. RDA grew an aftificial Na’vi human hybrid for Tom but, He was killed by a thief who tried to steal his wallet which is why RDA recruited Jake. The avatar body grown for Tom can only be operated by someone with the same DNA as him therefore to avoid loosing a substantial investment RDA recruited Jake to take his brother’s place.

After arriving on Pandora Jake operates the artificially grown avatar body and tries to become one of NA’vi in order to make them cooperate with RDA. However, Jake Sully falls in love with Neytiri the daughter of the Clan leaders. Her full name is Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite she is the princess of the Omaticaya clan and is choicen to be the future Tsahik, the spiritual leader of the clan. However, after meeting Jake and teaching him the ways of Na’vi for 3 months, they fall in love and mate under the Tree of Voices, one of the most sacred places for Na’vi which makes them mated for life.

Eytukan is Neytiri’s father, which makes him Jake’s father in Law, he’s the former clan leader of the Omaticaya clan and he was tragically killed by humans in the RDA’s attack of the Hometree.

Neytiri’s mother Mo’at is the spiritual leader of the clan and a mate of Eytukan, which also makes her Jake’s mother in law.

Mo’at also has a role of a shaman who can interpret and communicate with Eywa, a deity of Pandora which means that Neytiri also has the same abilities and we might see them in Avatar 2.

Neteyam is their first-born child however, we only see him in a couple of scenes in the trailer and we won’t really get familiar with him until the movie comes out. Neteyam is likely the next in line to be the future clan leader however this may not happen considering multiple theories about him dying in The Way of Water but we won’t get into these theories in this video.

Lo'ak is the second born son of Jake and Neytiri and from the trailer we know that there will be a love storyline between him and Tsirey the daughter of the ocean clan leaders, so possibly in Avatar 3 Jake Neytiri will become grandparents

Which brings us to Jake’s adopted daughter Kiri who also has 5 fingers and eyebrows, she was also born on Pandora but her birth is veiled in Mystery. Kiri’s human features maybe the result of Dr. Grace reincarnation though Eywa. In the original Avatar, after death, Dr Grace became a part of Eywa which also acts as a hive mind of PandaRO where all beings return after death only to be reborn again in the future.

The fourth child in the Sully family is Miles Socorro with a nickname spider, he is a human but raised as a Na’vi which is why his body is painted in blue stripes but he has to wear an exopack breath. We primarily see him in the teaser trailer and he appears to play a crucial role in the events of Avatar 2 which we’ll get to in just a bit. Miles is an adopted human child who was born on Pandora in the human colony base operated by RDA “Hell’s Gate”.

The fifth and youngest child in Jake and Neytiri’s family is Tuktirey their only biological dauter. In the trailer, we see her arriving to the Metkaiana clan location and in the scene in which Neytiri tries to escape the sinking ship with her. Tuktirey may have been kidnapped since on other shots in the trailer we see avatars holding Jake’s kids hostage on a ship

Just to recap, Jake Sully and Neytiri are the leading couple in the franchise. Jaka had a twin brother Tom and Neytiri had a sister Sylwanin. Neytiris parents are Eytukan and Mo’at however Jake’s parents are unknown. Jake had 3 kids with Neytiri, the oldest son Neteyam, the second son Lo’ak and the youngest dauter Tuktirey. They also adopted 2 other kids, Kiri a Pandora native and a human child Miles Socorro.

  • Correction. Miles is not adopted by Jakes family. He was raised by the scientists or the "lab guys" as Jake says. Jake also says Miles is not part of their family but is like a "stay cat" inseparable from the kids.

Edit: No, "A son for a son" does not mean Spider is now his son, Jake just repeated what Neytiri said before. Quaritch in a way took his son, now Jake has his.
  • I feel like Miles is going to want a Na'vi body like Jake and may be manipulated into going with the army so he can get a body so Neytiri can finally approve of him the way she approves of Jake who is also human. I think that his childish naiveté will be exploited, not that he will flat out betray his family. But just my theory, we shall see!
  • I know it creates drama and good story, but I'm disappointed in Neytiri if she really does treat the human child as an outsider. Jake is more responsible for the death of her father than the boy who had absolutely nothing to do with the first movies events. This is probably why Zoe Saldana said she cried in the first 20 minutes of the movie, maybe because her character will treat and innocent unfairly.

Edit: now that I have seen the movie I can see why she would treat Spider as an outsider and enemy, especially after what happens to her son. I won't spoil anything but Neytiri scared me a bit in the final fight. I thought she would kill Spider and probably would have, had she seen him sooner.

Kiri being born from Graces avatar is actually something that comes from an older script from the first movie dating back to the 1990s. I remember reading about jake "having to give birth to himself" way back in 2009 on the wiki, and I think this is a carried over idea by James Cameron.

Just saw the movie tonight and it’s NOTHING like you think it is. It’s absolutely amazing.
  • 8:09 maybe they offer him a avatar because he just wants his mothers love and thinks having a Na'vi body will get him that
  • I'm thinking Kiri plays a big part in "Avatar 3: The Seed Bearer" or at least future films for the franchise. The story of her spiritual connection to Pandora doesn't go unnoticed.
  • I don't think Miles Socorro will betray his family or Na'vi to RDA or Quaritch out of his own will. Of course Neytiri not accepting him would leave him slightly bitter and insecure, but I don't think Spider would use that as an excuse to set up the only family he ever has had for last 15 years. But maybe Quaritch and RDA may try to manipulate Spider into cooperation by promising or even giving him his own Avatar so that he can live more open with Na'vi and be accepted by them, only for it to turn out to be a trap if the Recoms or Quaritch himself (according to one of the theories) use their queues to make Tsaheylu with Spider's Avatar's to find out Sully family's location from his memories, and that Spider might be at the Metkayina village as part of Quaritch plan to gloat in Jake's face of Spider's involment in the destruction of the village. And if you look closely, a Recom soldier appears to be holding from Spider's shoulder or neck to push him forward, and that Spider raises his arm up to swat the Recom's arm away.

Avatar was really ahead of its time with the graphics. I'm so excited to see how they improved their graphics.
  • You also failed to pick up something on the scene where the Recoms (armed Avatars) have attacked the Metkayina village and apparently taken hostages. There are a few frames where it looks like the nearest Avatar (assumed to be Quaritch) tries to guide Spider forward and he makes a motion refusing his touch.

After watching the movie, its impressive how much he got right, there was obviously some wrongs, like his theory about Spider, and why the water villiage is burning, but all in all he got an impressive amount of stuff right
  • @cinezurdo
Edit: I saw the movie guys; So they explained how he lives his day to day. Thanks for sharing your comments.

I’d like to understand how Miles lives day to day having to wear a mask in order to breathe. How does he eat, brush his teeth, sleep, and not grow extremely irritated of an air tight seal on his face at all times?
  • I generally believe the movie will kill off Neteyam because the trailer and synopsis talks about the tragedy the family is going to face. Tragedy usually meaning a death. Considering Lo’ak has most of the focus and he has romance with the Princess of the water tribe - I believe it even more. All the children apart from Neteyam has a focus point and to me - that screams he might die. Plus he’s the oldest, which will make it more heartbreaking when it comes to the story. Lo’ak is different, less accepted and younger - Neteyam seems to be a normal navi. So I assume Lo’ak feels less then his older brother, but at the same time he can’t measure up to him or replace his position in the story as next tribe leader without him gone. So Lo’ak having so much focus in the film - to me means he might take his brothers place after his death. Obviously this is just a theory.
  • @Volkrad
When you think about it, all of Jake's kids are actually his brother's kids
  • In the newest trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water, it shows Mo’at with Jake and Neytiri presenting their newborn baby (who I am assuming is Neteyam) with their Olo’eyktan and Tsahík clothing in front of many other Na’vi. So (at least in that part of the movie) Mo’at is very much alive.
  • @DjHazardous
After watching The way of water you're actually 90%-95% accurately correct about the family tree.

Here’s my theory about Kiri. In the trailer, It’s presumed Jake’s daughter Kiri is referring to Eywa. But I also believe she might also be referring to Grace. She feels Grace, she feels her heartbeat. It might be a reflection of her own heartbeat. Kiri is Grace Reincarnated. The Na’vi say that every person is born twice. The second is when you earn your place among the people. This is her second life, and Grace has earned her place among the people. I think Kiri refers to Grace as mom because she is unaware Grace was her past life. Kiri is drawn to Grace, she feels like she has a strong bond with her. And I really feel over time Kiri will remember who she was.

While the RDA uses technology to resurrect dead soldiers by making a COPY of them, Ewya can resurrect fallen Navi by simply transferring their soul into another body or newborn infant. Look at the Tree of Souls for example. It’s a very spiritual place where the Navi go to speak to their deceased loved ones. But if you look at the science, the Tree of Souls acts as a hard drive you could say. It can store a persons consciousness (soul) upon death. It’s not a COPY of their mind. It is their literal soul that can be uploaded to the Tree. And upon rebirth, their soul is transferred into a newborn. Their memories of their past life are locked due to the fact a newborns brain won’t be able to recollect all those memories at once. But as they get older they will start to feel a connection to their past life as more memories are unlocked. It is why the Navi believe in reincarnation. It’s not just a belief, it’s an occurrence that does happen. And I feel like that’s what happening with Kiri possibly…

the RDA make corrupted copies of a deceased person (they are the evil), while Ewya, The Tree of Souls, can transfer the original PURE consciousness into a new form (they are the good). Quadritch represents the corrupted force while Grace represents the pure force.
  • Neytiri and Spider will be probably like Catelyn Stark and Jon Snow.
  • @arthur3545
I am so happy you're back! Once again you've made another 10/10. Can't wait for the next video!
  • @LukeLovesRose
Theres a lot more family drama in The Way of Water than most Cameron movies
