Instructions unclear: started working on a story around the theme of the futility of war, and now my country is at war

Not sure if you value praise, but here's a suggestion: Never change your thumbnails. The font, the bold colors, it works VERY well and I can always tell your videos apart from another creator's just at a glance. You're just as great a marketer as you are a writer and youtuber. I think the entire reason I found your channel is because the thumbnail was engaging.

"How do mf's feel?" is such an impactful and lifechanging philosophy and i mean it

You’re a fantastic youtuber. Every time i read any of your titles im like “theres no way im not clicking on that.” Very engaging and informative. Great job.

This is the kind of good advice I've been looking for. Finally, someone who appreciates the value of simply eating people who don't like my writing. Will definitely take this trick on board and start applying it going forward.
  • "What if I have premade cast of characters that may not work together, but I'm to attached to let go?" Modify them until they do.

Two new local script man videos in a short amount of time? Damn this whole week is good
  • I find it ironic that some of my favorite stories of all time have such thematic power, and yet when I actually write I think so little of theme for some reason, at least in the beginning lol. But yeah, definitely need to think about it more. And happy 100k subs, Local! :)

I'm FLABBERGASTED at how kind and wholesome this comment section has been, and it's possibly the best Youtube comment section I've ever had the pleasure to witness! So have another kind comment! Additionally, it's super neat to see the confident flare and commitment you put into your videos alongside your humble, appreciative replies to other kind comments. It's nice to see the creator of something you find impressive being a real~ person to other real~ people in a funky, real~~~ internet place. Despite a world of differing Realities, I real~ly like your work, and for what it's worth, thanks for making it!

As a newer writer your channel has been the absolute most helpful for learning about writing. Love your videos!

10 seconds in and I already had to pause to take notes😅👏🏽

While Avatar The Last Airbender has clear good guys and bad guys, with the universally known redemption arc of one, I was genuinely surprised at how loosely the characters were portrayed throughout their conflicts, as if they were allowed to be wrong without being infuriating or annoying or even evil. There’s only one true consistent evil from their introduction to the end, and everyone else is morally grey, just some tending towards one side more than others. Otherwise, the writers worked hard considering what the right story to tell with each character was, which led to the what we would call the good guys having their own natural moral dilemmas suited to their respective characters!
  • This is what makes a show like Arcane so good. So many characters, so many perspectives.

Honesty as someone who's had a lot of different elements on the backburner for years; characters, plot, setting, lore etc, this was the final thing I needed in my head for it to click as a STORY. It was essentially a case of taking all these characters I'd already made and putting them on a spreadsheet, seeing what they had in common. What's their view on the events occuring around them and what that main joining thread is. Though I found something that did help me as well. See I kinda already had some of those "characters I made and like and am attached to" that didn't directly tie to the theme. So I planned things out listing one thing as the "macrotheme" and linking other characters, settings and moments to "microthemes". These microthemes can have what seems to be a self-contained focus, like individual pods or arcs within the larger story. But the core cast all have the macrotheme as a primary part of their character. So when they leave that bubble of the microtheme that the story puts them in for a while, they leave different than they entered, having a knock-on effect on their perspective of the macrotheme. EDIT: I just finished typing this and good lord I didn't notice how long I rambled there

This helped me like instantly it’s so obvious but holy shit having it broken down to me like a 5 year old really helped
  • This is the single most useful video on screenwriting I have found on YouTube.

This is the first writing advice channel that ive ever watched that feels like its giving actual advice on how to write.
  • this is amazing. looking back at the first novel i wrote, i realized they really didn't have any unique opinions other than one or two characters not liking somebody. i didn't know what it was back then, but it felt weak. this is why. i've started plotting a story using this technique, and while writing the perspectives they were already at each others throats. thank you!
  • @AMVhuntingSyndrom
The characters do not necessarily need to have an opinion on the theme. Their story arc could simply be an exploration of the theme. So its not so much about who they are, but what they are about to experience when choosing characters.
