10 pros and cons to buying digital and physical games and what the differences are in 2024. Which is better? Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are available with and without a disc slot, so which should you buy? With more and more games going digital only, could this be the end of disc based games…

Let me know which you prefer and your reason in the comments.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it the end of physical games?
  • @cheese5194
While I’m all digital, I still want physical games to be available. I hate that the arguments on this topic are always on the extremes. There should be a place you can buy either where everyone can be satisfied on their preferred media type.

Definitely Physical. With physical games not only do I have more ownership of it, but I also have treasured memories involving certain physical games. Kingdom Hearts 2.8 for example holds a special place in my heart because it was a Valentine’s Day gift from my mom.

Almost all my games are physical, and that won't be changing anytime soon

Physical for me (even in my next life). The fact I can see all of my games on a disc rack is just so satisfying. And I will keep them all until I get old.

I switched to all digital back when the newest generation of consoles came out. I love that I can switch back and forth between titles in an instance and also not have the hassle of trying to find storage for my ever growing collection of games! The numerous discounts on physical games (at least for the PS5 anyway) I do miss though!

Depends on the game to me then sometimes it depends on the price
  • With the country I stay in, buying physical games is extremely expensive, which is why I have joined the digital band wagon and wait for those discounts to buy several games digitally with gift cards. Since owning my Ps5 (disk version), I do not own any physical games.

I like digital. It just helps with space in my house. I wish we could just keep both in the future
  • I like digital for the convenience, but disc is more collectable. I'm always an advocate for physical media, I don't want to be part of a future where I pay up to 70 dollars or more for a game i don't even own. It can easily be taken away from us as well.

I love the convenience of digital but I get the love for physical.

I prefer physical but it’s important to have as many options as possible. Some digital games have inflated prices or get delisted, while some physical games have limited prints and rarity makes them expensive. Some digital games are on sale for dirt cheap while used mass produced games are almost always cheap.
  • It's digital for me because I love the convenience but I do miss the nostalgic feeling of going to stores and getting the physical copies.
  • @eddiem5713
idk if that was intentional but that reference to the ps4 campaign in the sharing games segment caught me off guard love it
  • @BillAC-
Gaming is awesome! I mix both, but I primarily buy physical games and will often buy a physical version of a digital game I own if really love it

Before watching: I buy 90% of my games physically cause, A: I can return or sell them if I choose to do so for whatever reasons, B: installing a game off a disc if I remember right is a lil faster than storing a whole game on your memory and also I believe less space???, and C: I like to display them (Especially my Zelda collection). Not to say I wont buy digital games (steam and otherwise) but only if thats the only option to buy that game (steam again being the main thing but there are other reasons) There are games that come out digital only then get a physical limited edition later where since I already bought the digital version on release and the physical has no extra stuff I'll just stick with the digital version.
  • @Voiceofagodtwo
Physical, as much as i actually don't like to get up and change disc everytime i want to play a new game. I still enjoy keeping physical copies, to either trade with friends or use to decorate my setup.
  • @Batman3939393
A few years ago I started buying more digital bc I was running out of space, but now I've reverted back to buying physical as much as I can. Physical games can't be taken away from me, and there's something special about being able to look at my collection even if the game's license has been delisted. A prime example is my copy of Overwatch 1 even though the game no longer exists
