With new album, Sonder, Dermot Kennedy admits he’s never related to a word more. Sonder, “the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own,” encapsulates universal themes of love, loss & hope, with the platinum-selling artist evolving into an even more expressive and powerful storyteller

Lyrics:
Better days are comin'
If no one told you
I hate to hear you cryin'
Over the phone, dear
For seven years runnin'
You've been a soldier
But better days are comin'
Better days are comin' for you
So when the night feels like forever
(Mh-mh)
I'll remember what you said to me
I know you've been hurtin'
Waitin' on a train that just won't come
The rain, it ain't permanent
And soon, we'll be dancin' in the sun
We'll be dancin' in the sun
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
We never miss the flowers
Until the sun's down
We never count the hours
Until they're runnin' out
You're on the other side of the storm now
You should be so proud
And better days are comin'
Better days are comin' for you
So when the night feels like forever
(Mh-mh)
I'll remember what you said to me
I know you've been hurting (is our time ever soothing?)
Waiting on a train that just won't come
The rain, it ain't permanent (is our time ever soothing?)
And soon, we'll be dancing in the sun
We'll be dancing in the sun
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
Your story's gonna change
Just wait for better days
You've seen too much of pain
Now, you don't even know
That your story's gonna change
Just wait for better days
I promise you, I won't let go
I know you've been hurting
Waiting on a train that just won't come
The rain, it ain't permanent (is our time ever soothing?)
And soon, we'll be dancing in the sun
We'll be dancing in the sun
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)
And we'll sing your song together (eh-eh, eh-eh)

Been homeless for five years in and out of b&bs temporary accommodation sleeping in bushes on benches and I went to view my first flat today, it’s mine signing tenancy in a week or two then moving in. The rain defiantly isn’t forever and we must all thank this man for his music. My story’s about to change ❤️
  • I'm at the lowest point I've ever been in my life right now. This song is what keeps me going. Thank you. Better days are coming.

I've been battling colon cancer stage 4 at only 34 years old. Yesterday I heard I'm cancer free. This song is just wow... It came on the radio while I was waiting in the room just before surgery. - Edit: had my first scan after three months! Still clear!🎉 - Edit: scan 2 after six months! Still clear 🌸 - Edit: scan 3 after ten months. Still clear and rocking my after cancer life! - Edit: scan 4 after 14 months. Still in the clear and greatly thankful for being on the other side of the storm. Thanks for all the sweet comments. I smile every time I get a notification :) - Edit (nov, 23): scan 5 after 18 months: no evidence of disease🎉🥹 - Edit (March, 2024): scan 6 after 22 months! Everything is still in the clear. NED. Even when fear sometimes takes all control over me, I have a beautiful life and I am so thankful.

My son is 11 years old and has been suffering for years with symptoms doctors couldn’t find what it was till yesterday they found a tumor that has spread to his brain he is undergoing surgery and will have to do radiation therapy and have to have a shunt put in his head! I used to play this song with him before we found out the diagnosis and now it really makes sense! Please pray for my son Trey !! Thank you

This song really hits home. Im in a toxic relationship and I know its time to leave and get out and this song is helping me so much knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Sending positive vibes to everyone x
  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Thank you so much for this song. It is helping me daily as I fight through these dark clouds which continue to follow me around. Fortunately the dark clouds are outnumbered by the amazing friends who are on my side. Be blessed. You are in my prayers. Bradley Russ
  • Just heard this song on America's Got Talent by a young man named Lee 21 years old from England. He killed it. He was amazing. Gave me goosebumps and I rewinded it 3x's. Now it's saved on my list. He did it justice.

I've never heard a song by Dermot Kennedy that I didn't like instantly. This guy is the most consistent I've seen.

This song is written for so many people and for so many different reasons. This song gives hope and encourages the person who is listening to it .

Whos still listening to this masterpiece in feb 2024 🎶 💕
  • My younger brother committed suicide last weekend by overdosing on something. He was found with headphones on, presumably listening to something. This is his youtube account. He made a playlist containing 6 songs that was edited the day he passed. This is one of the 6 songs. With the method he used, he was dead after about 30 minutes, probably unconscious around 12 minutes. I like to think that it was peaceful for him with his music on. I love you Myles, I'll miss you everyday for the rest of my life.

"The rain it ain't permanent, and soon we'll be dancing in the sun." - That part always makes me smile, what a great song.

I don't think this man realizes how much he impacts people, his music has has pulled me out more dark times than I can count! I saw him live and it was such a surreal moment in my life! He continues to blow me away each time a new song comes out! <3
