I spent 12 straight hours feverishly editing this video, I think it's one of my best to date. Let me know what you think in the comments! Could I have done anything better? Was my math wrong? (probably.) Thanks for watching regardless!

a LOT of people wondering why I didn’t just use a key logger, while this would be a good solution for playthroughs done in a live setting, I did not have five people on hand who had not played hollow knight yet, nor would I bother them to ask to download the program and have them open it every time they played the game. There’s too much room for error this way (as in someone forgets to open the program or the knowledge they have a key logger running changes the way they play). This notwithstanding, I did in fact look for a key logger for my own input planning, but no program I could find worked properly (there was one, but if you held down a button instead of just tapping it it would count infinitely, I had 1000 right inputs leaving kings pass). A keylogger isn’t a bad idea, but not great data compared to what Harold accomplished.

this was the minimum amount of imputs needed to write this comment

what no silksong does to a person:
-
I honestly though it was going to be a frame-by-frame TAS trying to use the minimum inputs
-
cant convince me this wasnt a class project
-
Feels like a lot of effort compared to actually tracking keyboard/controller inputs with a program
-
12:34 I think the npc thing wasn’t they really liked talking to npcs, but more talking to npcs is more important so all of that was left in the footage, they probably played around 40 hours like the last two people.

Getting a lot of comments about it, sorry for the low volume!! I don't know what it is about my editing software/video player that makes everything sound so loud, but I'll keep this in mind for the next video. Thanks for watching anyways though!!

This is not at all what I expected. I thought it would be about finding the lowest number of inputs needed to beat the game. That would be very interesting as well!
-
insane, I had the idea of beating absolute radiance with the least amount of inputs, great work!
-
Damn, this seems overcomplicated. Couldn't you just use a keylogger for this?
-
Thought this was going to be like a 0.5x A Press video but in Hollow Knight
-
Why not make a hollow knight mod that looks directly inside the game ?
-
silksongless behaviour

Now jarlyk needs to completely TAS min inputs

im very soon into the video, but just a small point of feedback that as a hard of hearing person, this video is VERY quiet! i had to turn my headphones to max to hear anything clearly when i usually keep them around 30 or so. this isnt any type of criticism about the content of the video itself, just letting you know so maybe you can adjust this for future videos :)

super sick and nerdy video. harold is the goat frfr. the min inputs makes me think of min nail swings, im hopefully going to publish a vid on that in like a month :D
-
halfway through this i realized... you could've just asked Jarlyk 😭 Very fun entertaining and interesting video!

Great video, make the audio louder tho

So, I feel like this would've been a good project where Jarlyk (and the other TAS'ers (Jarlyk is just the only one whose name I know off the top of my head)) for some input (pun fully intended). Cause like, a TAS does well, just, list out each instruction needed and the knight just, does those actions. So by counting the number of actions that a TAS gives the knight in the given TAS'ed run, you'd get your mathematically perfect number. Of course, a TAS is not a human (and also a TAS optimized for inputs would not be the same as a TAS optimized for speed (looking at you nail knockback against wall strats)), and, being not a human, you wouldn't get the same sort of results. This experiment focussing mainly on casual playthroughs gives a more natural conclusion than one you would get by examining TASes. Anyway, nice video! Can feel the lack of silksong induced insanity quite clearly.
