The Great and Little Santa Cruz Islands are indeed one of the best beaches of Zamboanga City. It is even included in the National Geographic's list of top beaches in the world! The islands are well-preserved in its pristine state. The Great Sta. Cruz island is famous for its uniquely pinkish sands. The pink coloration effect is due to the pulverized rare red Organ-pipe Coral ( tubipora musica ) from eons of surf erosion mixed in with the white sand. There are (affordable) covered huts around and under lush flowering trees which are really relaxing! You don't even have to avail of the hut rentals because every tree is teeming with shade already! The island offers beautiful views of the coral reefs too in just few meters away from the shore through snorkeling and scuba diving, depending on weather conditions. Visitors can take the mangrove / lagoon boat tour, an optional tour on small boats that gives you a look at the activities of the locals mostly from the Badjao community, harvest sea grapes and witness stingless jellyfish up close.

You can request to take a short tour at the nearby Little Santa Cruz Island for its beautiful white sand bar. Only, swimming is not allowed on the island.

Zamboanga city is practicing responsible tourism. Hence, all trips must be coordinated with the city's Tourism office. Advanced booking should also be made at Paseo del Mar. Currently, they are allowing only 400 visitors max per day. Guests are oriented on how to protect the island before boarding the boats. While on the island, visitors can enjoy low-impact eco-tourism and cultural activities handled by the local community especially during Hermosa festival. Tour guides and visitors are also required to bring out their trash by the end of the day.

Thanks J Beez for the great company!
