Extar EP9 with Franklin Armory Gen 3 Binary Trigger Function Test

I made this video because I could not find any videos online of whether a Franklin Armory Gen III binary trigger would function in my Extar EP9. It functions, but see below.

I used my stock buffer spring and everything else is stock on the firearm. The only thing that I do that might be different is I lubed my BCG (which Extar says is not necessary).

****EDIT****
I've ran into some issues:
1) Reliability - it's REALLY easy to outrun the trigger, so rate of fire is slow. I've put an extra heavy spring in, but to no avail. There is a comment here from a guy that links to his video that got his RoF really high by modding his buffer.

2) Safety - Basically the firearm is "binary only," meaning that you cannot put it into single fire. If it is on single fire, the safety is so loose it will work it's way to binary mode. Really unsafe and it surprised me a few times. I don't mind it for a range toy, but I wouldn't use it for home defense or anything similar.

I'm currently building a 80% 9mm that I plan on installing the binary trigger in. We'll see how well it functions.

Can you make a detailed vid explaining the experience with this trigger set up

Thanks, I was wondering if these took drop in triggers and specifically these binary triggers.
  • @Rc-Adventurers
Is there any budget flat faced triggers or drop in trigger groups that will work? Not looking for bells and whistles just something different than stock.

Oh man! you don’t know what your doing to my wallet. I had no clue it would work in an extar, thank you!

Looks fantastic 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥question which binary trigger did you use the regular AR version gen 3 or the pc charger version

YIKES! Hoping to pick up an EP9 in the next few months. Looks like A LOT of fun.

I did my first shooting a couple days ago and have been watching videos ever since :) I love guns and there's too much to learn in one lifetime, lol. Would love to shoot something high powered like this.

Love my Extar! Binary Trigger is an interesting idea
  • Respect and thanks for this unique video! I subbed. Did you use the stock spring weight and did you have to swap out the buffers or do anything special, or was it just drop in and use their buffer spring?

If big brother finds out how much fun this gun is, they'll want to ban it for sure :-(

About how many rounds have you run thru it since you shot this video? Any problems so far?
  • @seanlandry1216
Do you have the exact model number you used...there are a few variations and just want to get the right one for my secondary EP9.
  • @killersushi99
I have a EP9 also. Were you able to use the factory safety selector?
  • @iceblock3
Any modifying the lower dremil or anything Or just put it in and works ?

I installed the Franklin Armory Gen III in my build 9MM AR Pistol .... with Glock mags. I have frequent issues with both semi mode and binary mode where it will fire one or more shots and stop ... I installed the trigger assembly as it came from Franklin Armory with the medium spring. Prior to installing I noticed (from prior shooting about 250 rounds through the build) the plastic part of the buffer was falling apart and the roll pin was oblong one one side and coming out on the other side. That buffer weighed 3 oz. and I was told 9mm like heavy buffers. So I ordered a 5.4 oz. 9mm buffer and spring and rear bump kit. Installed and tried and having issues. Installed the medium spring from FA and used the spring that came with the 9mm buffer kit. Only one time did it operate “somewhat correct” ... any ideas?

Dude, please help me out, how did you remove the grip to your Extar and when u did, did a detent spring come out that is holding in the safety selector.
  • Kyle Wasser I've had my Franklin BFSIII in mine since it's first range trip. I've ran about 3000 through it over the last few months, without one issue. If you want it to run really fast without hammer follow, you have to swap the stock buffer out for a lighter h1 carbine buffer and use the heavy spring. The h1 buffer will have to be profiled a bit with a dremel. You will also need a spacer or the ol' stack of quarters trick. Hope this helps.  https://youtu.be/TO9xv10h6ww
