Even when I think there's nothing more for me to learn about this series you open my eyes to a whole new angle

I'm both a literature teacher and a huge fantasy nerd and this right here is legitimately the best analysis of ASOIAF I've ever come across. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, coming across stuff like this makes me love the books even more 🙏
  • We also see Theon symbolically killing his “brother” Bran before undergoing a grey transformation as well
  • Makes me rethink that scene with Maester Aemon and Jon Snow were talking about... brothers who had the opposite duty that they did. "Who are you? You're Aemon Targaryan!" "I am a Maester of the Citadel, bound in service to the Nights Watch. I will not tell you to go or stay... You must choose, as I did. And live with it for the rest of your days." Wow! Just wow. I have to reread and rewatch it, now.
  • Yes yes yes! Bravo 👏 👏 👏 the story is written in layers of symbolism. Grrm is often telling one story and showing another.
  • @phnompenhandy
A super-deep dive into a range of mythology. These are the best kinds of ASOIAF research, keeping the topic fresh. Great stuff!
  • It’s interesting that all the kinslayers you mentioned and more are also Azor Ahai figures as well (Stannis, Bloodraven, Grey King, Euron, Bloodstone Emporer, Jon dreams of killing Rob in his Azor Ahai dream and Dany could be seen as kinslaying through the death of Viserys) Another great video Amanda 👏👏👏

Garth be Praised! Praise Garth! Another great vid. GRRM does love his "equal but opposites" motif. Come on by the IDG Livestream tomorrow. I'll be sure to post a link to the vidya too. Cheers!
  • Dang Amanda. I didn't think this story had much more juice in it... you continue to amaze me with your fantastic analysis. I literally got goosebumps at the end.

Now this is good theory crafting. It’s a big piece of the puzzle but that Iron Born connection was right there and I never even thought of it. Great work. It seams like something George would come up with.
  • @zaebumafu
No matter how innocuous the topic sounds, you always manage to wow me with the connections you find!
  • I think Bloodraven is the most obvious parallel for the Grey King/ Garth legend as well as the Blood betrayal myth. He’s whispered to be the real ruler, he literally kills his brother, he has a form of magical longevity but has a corpse like appearance. Interesting of note, he technically fits the garth description in a metaphorical sense, as green hair and skin refer to him being physically part of a tree. Though to be honest, there’s nothing to suggest that he was beloved by the people but I could draw something of a line between his word being law and him killing off certain lines of the Targaryens/Blackfyres with making wombs quicken (forcing certain unions that would produce certain progeny). Admittedly it’s a reach. But I think you have some very interesting things here, especially with the purpose of the Three-Eyed Crow.
  • @shelleyj3704
Brilliant! So well thought out and presented, and super entertaining. Brava.
  • @DRourkey
To be cursed for killing a man is a horrible thing. But to kill a cursed man, ending their suffering early, that's a greater sin
  • @TealWolf26
"What is dead may never die" and a long lived, grey skin person, more corpse than man, brings to mind vampires or even liches. I love the richness of the Planetos lore and all the woven influences to speculate on.
  • Just finished watching this and baffled that it only has a little over 2,800 views?!?! Criminally underrated ASOIAF channel! Thanks again, Crowfood's Daughter 💜💜💜
