Today on the show, we host Vikram Sampath. He is an Indian popular historian, noted for authoring biographies of Gauhar Jaan and V. D. Savarkar. He is one of the most knowledgeable guests on the show - truly inspiring.

Bangalore-based historian Dr. Vikram Sampath is the author of 8 acclaimed books of history including biographies of Gauhar Jaan & Veer Savarkar & Bravehearts of Bharat on unsung heroes of India. He was elected as a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Historical Society of the UK, a winner of the Sahitya Akademi's first Yuva Puraskar in English literature & the ARSC Award for Excellence in Historical Research in New York. He has a Ph.D. in history & music from the University of Queensland, is a trained Carnatic vocalist & has established India's 1st digital sound archive for vintage gramophone recordings called the Archive of Indian Music.

This video is a breakdown of the Indian Freedom Struggle. The Indian independence movement was a series of historic events with the ultimate aim of ending British rule in India. It lasted from 1857 to 1947. Few leaders followed a more violent approach, than the others. This became especially popular after the Rowlatt Act, which permitted indefinite detention. The Act sparked protests across India, especially in the Punjab province, where they were violently suppressed in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The Indian independence movement was in constant ideological evolution.

Lucky are those who are born in this great country.

Proud to be an Indian

  • I am a Kokanastha maharashtrian brahmin. Following Gandhi's death, my great grandfather had to run away from Kolhapur after a mob burnt his house and shop. His crime? Belonging to the same subcaste as Godse. He came to Mumbai with his wife and 5 daughters, had to live in detestable conditions and work till he died because they had lost everything. Thank you Sampath ji for shedding light on this tragedy.

"Gandhi was a national security risk" - no better words to say the truth!
  • @anvayp
I am a maharashtrian brahmin. The 1948 carnage that Mr. Sampath talked about is true. My Great grandfather and his family was thrown out of their home in Kolhapur and was burnt to ashes in front of them. My grandfather was mere 10 year old at the time. He wrote his very first poem while watching all this happen and later he went on and become the famous marathi film lyricist Shri. Jagdish Khebudkar. I have heard the incident from him several times and it brings goosebumps and tears just while writing this comment.

"Every Indian should visit Andaman and Nicobar prisons as pilgrimage." - Vikram Sampath This one statement made me think deep for most of the day.
  • My great grandfather's name is written on wall of cellular Jail in Port Blair .. Mr Satish pakrashi.. i am very proud that he was my ancestor🙏

I am a grand daughter of a freedom fighter , my grand father served his imprisonment in Kolhapur jail during the freedom struggle, he was from Fergusson College ,Pune (Law). He is awarded by the state for his contribution to freedom struggle , same way did his own petitions ,etc . Was excellent in english language as well as French. With all the intellectual discussion in the family that I have seen since childhood ,I am glad to see that India has decided to make merit. Also I belong to the linage of Sri Baji prabhu Deshpande. It feels great to see our thoughts being directed to understand the facts.
  • This episode has taught me more than all the entire ncert history which I was never interested in anyways
  • My daughter is 1 year old. When she grows up I am gonna show these episodes and teach her the history of my country. Thank You, Ranveer 🙏🏻 for this amazing job, you are doing. Do not stop just keep it on.
  • @vaatsaate
"Kala Pani should be place of Pilgrimage for all of our students".. wow.. This line shows what level of historian Mr. Vikram Sampath is. Being Maharashtrian, every one worships Veer Savarkarji, but because of this podcast in English, his work, his sacrifice, talent and love for nation will reach across India and remove all misconceptions of Veer Savakarji and his Hindutva ideology.... Ranveer, thanks for such a great show, rather eye opener.... Hats off !!
  • @unalome4074
I'm marathi girl who's born and brought up in Pune. Fortunately I've learned "correct" History of Independence since childhood through various history books and plays. Now this podcast will teach real history to people who don't know the truth which was hidden for several years!
  • @zdimension01
All due respect to "Netaji Subhashchandra Boss" My Deepest Gratitude to him and to his family. Jai hind🇮🇳
  • "Country owes gratitude to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose" 🙌 Thanks Ranveer and Vikram Sir for enlightening us.
  • I'm Indian decendant living in Fiji and this podcast opened up my eyes. In Fiji we have schools under the name of Gandhi, Nehru and Indira Gandhi etc, but none in the memory of Veer Sarvarkar or Subash Chandra Bose!
  • A very commendable and informative program. I’m an almost 70 yrs old and have been waiting for the hidden truths to be revealed. I’m glad I stumbled onto this program. Great job!!
  • Watching this podcast on Independence day makes me feel that we should all be grateful to how comfortable we are today for the sacrifice made by many unsung heroes. My tributes to them
  • If this podcast would have been released during my school days, I would have failed in history for writing the right answer.
  • @introvert2023
I am 18 .Just listening about Kalapani tortures gave me goosebumps. It feels so pity seeing leftist mock them. Thank You Vikram Sampath sir for enlightening us with this knowledge.
  • @Miss_11
