New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez was found guilty on all 16 counts in his federal bribery trial on Tuesday, after the jury deliberated for about 12.5 hours over three days. The charges against the senator include bribery, extortion, acting as a foreign agent, obstruction of justice, and several counts of conspiracy.

Menendez responded to the verdict and said, "Obviously, I'm deeply, deeply disappointed by the jury's decision. I have every faith that the law and the facts did not sustain that decision, and that we will be successful upon appeal."

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said, "This wasn't politics as usual — this was politics for profit. And now that a jury has convicted Bob Menendez, his years of selling his office to the highest bidder have finally come to an end."

Menendez, who had pleaded not guilty in the case, did not testify in his own defense. His sentencing is scheduled for October 29.
