  • Cheat code: If you’re applying to an art school, just mention somewhere in your essay that you’re thinking of taking up politics if you don’t get in

Writing college essays rn, def gonna use the "if you don't let me into your college, people will die" line
  • God damn dude you just annihilated the entire college system lmao. The whole process always felt so weird and cult-ish to me and I always found it strange how everyone not only casually accepted all the dumb hoops you're forced to jump through JUST for admission, but seemed excited to do so just because it meant they got to be "an adult"

Well seeing all of this made me realize I was wasting all my time as a senior inflating my ego on a college application to go to Yale. By all means life gave me the biggest slap in the face for even thinking about doing that. Now I’m in community college having fun and enjoying myself. Though I wish I had money to go to a university, but I would take out absurd amounts of student loans and student loans=Depression for the next 15 years of my life.

my school had a math club and the kids would literally go to a math classroom during lunch to sit in the ac and play cards and capped so hard on the extracurricular section for their club and got into t20s 😭😭😭😭

this makes me so glad i actually enjoyed high school. did extracurriculars i liked, flopped on the sat, and had some cool friends. now im studying at a public state university that i got automatically accepted into with cheap tuition and a fabulous computer engineering program that will ensure that i will live comfortably once i graduate 😎😎 remember, theres nothing wrong with being average
  • This video perfectly described college admissions in America. I did so much bs for the sake of impressing colleges to the point where I felt lost in what I want to do.

The moment that I realized I was literally obsessed with these applications was when my friend was talking about how her mom had been sick and it was a really tragic story but I thought to myself “this would be such a good college essay”….
  • @kayo5011
I am literally capping on all of my extracurricular activities

College student here, my friend recently told me “Why work hard your entire high school career just to be accepted to a college where you’re gonna have to work harder” and this video speaks to that perfectly. I couldn’t be happier going to a cheaper public university where I can have fun and academics aren’t everything. I realized that was something of value to me only after reluctantly choosing to go to a safety on my acceptance list, and if I had chosen to go anywhere with a more “prestigous” reputation, I don’t know if my mental health would have been guaranteed. It’s so important to realize that prestige isn’t everything and to make sure there’s meaning in the things you do in high school and onwards.

I'm a British 17 yr old- and while I am not applying to the US, I do understand that most of these college/uni applications turn friends into enemies real quick...

Ivy League is a pipe dream where you get buried in debt and suffer from fierce competition and a phoney social environment. I highly recommend applying to your decent state schools so you can instead experience a diverse, enjoyable environment while still being able to exceed in academics to your liking. These are the final years of your adolescence, don’t let societal pressures dictate them

It's like dating, just lower your standards and you'll be much happier in the long run. Ez 🙏

I wish I could express how e v e r y s i n g l e thing in this video was correct at a soul crushing accuracy. Having just went through this last spring I just had one hell of a ptsd episode. Incredible
  • @medokii3339
Dude i was literally searching guides for applying rn you're a life saver😭
  • @juliefudds5140
currently, I'm a junior in high school and this video just showed me how much propaganda the U.S. feeds children that you need to apply to the elite college and if you don' your considered a failure for even going to community college or state school which is awful for future students who don't know what they want or want to do in life yet
  • @trombonetimo
What I find most fascinating is that not only are they looking for students that will be rich enough to donate back to the college, but they are also will keep pestering the rich parents to donate to the school well after graduation. Big yikes...
  • @kaitlyng7850
I was super excited about college admissions and college in general from the ages of like 10-16. I'd spend hours looking up the "most elite colleges" and "college acceptance videos." I made sure I basically got straight As and wanted to be at the best of the best for colleges. Up until right before I started applying for colleges and realized idgaf about the elite stuff anymore. Applied to like 1 elite college and that's bc I live in california and the UC application could be sent to all the UCs so I was like "sure why not." When I was 10 I was dead set on going to stanford. Now I realize I wasted my childhood caring about this stuff and it makes me sad knowing that where you go literally doesn't matter. I'm about to be a sophomore in college now (not at a super elite school but idc bc I actually really like it here and have a few friends). But yeah I can't believe I stressed out about this stuff and actually liked thinking about college, bc now all I can think about is my past and how much time I spent wasting my life thinking about college and life after it.
  • @mushroomhehe370
was encouraged to write about my parent's suicide very vividly for my college essay. that shit was triggering af.
  • @onkelearn
Dude - you just gave me the biggest "snap-back to reality" moment of my life. An international student from Austria here with the cliche dream of hustling into Stanford so I can bring my European ass into the US tech scene. You just made me realize that breaking my neck as a foreign student in a hardcore cs degree just to shorten my life expectancy by like 10 years probably isn't worth it lol. It might be better to just start college here after all. All jokes asides tho, seriously sucks for someone not from the US trying to stay competitive when you have to go to the military here only to start college when you're like 21 years old. Even if you're incredibly optimistic - encouraging yourself to try to get and internship overseas, only to open LinkedIn and see that the other people applying literally have a medal of honor from Biden himself and are like 17 years old with a finished msc degree lol. Kinda depressing, but I'm sure that there are other ways to break into the tech bubble from here. Anyways, thanks for the reality check, really needed it!:)
