The bottle of Jameson you saw in the tuk tuk , Almost all sri lankan tuk tuk drivers use empty liquor bottles to keep their drinking water.

I visited it few years ago to film for our TV show and its one of the many countries I find so fascinating!

From Ella, take a drive through Bandawela, Diyatalawa, Ohiya via Boralanda and drive across Horton plains national park to Nuwaraeliya. This route is not known to many foreigners. But trust me it's one of the most scenic routes

You had me at ‘24 degrees’…..😍 Sri Lanka, the handsome people, the beautiful nature, how laidback it is. I’m sold. As a Kiwi, I’m not sure I can do ‘high density humanity’ anymore. As you say ‘travelling is tiring’ but I think we could handle Sri Lanka. 😀

Ella is famous for that centuries old railway bridge built by British and the breath taking views surrounding it. If you wants to go there it is best to go by train from Colombo, because it covers some of the most beautiful sceneries and very popular among foreigners. Best option is to go second class as it is over crowded in the third class and in first class you can not open the windows. Anyway you need to go there earlier to grab a seat by the windows. I do not recommend any one to get in the train on the way somewhere unless you want to go standing all the way.
